Very fitting title for the song. It feels like I'm in a palace right beside an ocean, standing out. Ok that's cheesy but listen, it's good!
14. Kitty - R.R.E.A.M.
A perfect response to the people who oversexualized her.
13. Janelle Monaé - Given Em What They Love
The best Prince song since like 1995 or something. A great first "actual" track where Prince's falsetto and Janelle's crooning fit each other perfectly. I love the menacing vibe from it, reminds me of a better version of Come Alive (or maybe not better but different).
12. The Knife - Full of Fire
A 10 minute Synthpop/Dance song about gender identity. The climax of the song is in the last 30 seconds, and while it makes you wait for it you never feel bored doing so.
11. Le1f - Spa Day
The pulsating beat, and Le1f's flow go together amazingly! He always switches back between a fast and really slowed down flow. Plus, the "I'm feeling totally rejuvenated" line is such an earworm.
I did NOT know the cover in your avatar was a Kitty Pryde avatar (she's just Kitty now?). I used to love "Okay Cupid" when it made some end-of list whatever year it was out.
Great use of samples. The bombastic drops mixed with the delicate "Strange Fruit" give the song a demented, self destructive vibe, even if it can get vapid.
9. AlunaGeorge - Attracting Flies
By far the best attempt at "quirky" pop this year. Full of lush synths and Aluna singing in a playful manner.
8. Beyoncé - Haunted
I guess this is the one with Ghost too? Either way, all parts of the song are ****ing amazing. This is so unlike anything Beyoncé has ever done. It's dark, HAUNTING, and the spoken word section is so rhythmically like anything I expected from her. I was floored when I heard this beautiful song.
7. Sky Ferreira - I Blame Myself
Like the amazing attitude of Pretty on the Inside and Live Through This era hole, but in a really really really catchy pop song.
6. Kitty - Skrillionaire
Love this! A crazy idea for a sample but it works so well with the All American Reject's vocals appearing through the track randomly. She can rap, very well actually, and this song proves it.
5-10 is a great list. Just listened to Kitty and it was cool. I Blame Myself is fantastic and imo rivals Everything is Embarrassing for her best song ever. Haunted of course is fantastic. The best part of it is that it's not only the 2nd track but follows Pretty Hurts which is like, very typical Beyonce. Awesome.
Attracting Flies isn't my favorite AG song, but I like it a lot! And then same with the Kanye track.
