I really like this song.
And after seeing the video, i agree it should be on VEVO, because this video needs to seen by everyone. The respect that she would gain would be amazing. This video is beautiful.
"We sweat for a nickle and a dime, turn it into an empire" >>>>>
this would be BIG for Rihanna, if promoted correctly. I have high hopes for this song/message.
The imagery in the video makes the song extremely powerful. Ferguson, 9/11, MLK's funeral/The Civil Rights movement, immigration police, etc. all just make it an extremely powerful song and video. Definitely one of her best videos and songs, at least to me.
The hopeful song combined with that depressing footage. Really powerful.
And she looked gorgeous, as usual.

I think that's the point.
Rihanna, like many immigrants to the United States, has always thought of America as a land of splendor and endless opportunities but the reality is far different from what they thought it would be. Racial strife, police brutality, economic woes, terror threats, disease....the USA isn't perfect, and it's up to our generation to make a "new America".
I love it! It shows both how far we've come and the long ways we still have to go in this country, all the while trying to get that American dream. Let me watch it again.
I don't really notice the wobbling sound effects in the song when I'm watching the video (its less distracting since I'm focusing on the visuals) so it made me like the song more.
Though I don't get the comments in here saying that they thought the song was going to be a typical country anthem.. It sounded satirical on first listen. "You can be anything at all / in America...in AmERriCAAA"
"We sweat for a nickel and a dime / Turn it into an empire, whoa-oh-oh!"
Just listen to her tone you can hear it in her voice.. either way I thought the video was pretty good, much better commentary on society than Charli's "Famous" video. Does anyone even remember it at all
I don't like the Tidal exclusive but I guess that's the point she's trying to make. I'm interested to see how/when she is going to drop the album. It would be nice if it was on YT so people actually watch it but... y'know. #Tidalgang(?)

She's showing the struggles American is going through now, and is saying we'll turn those struggles and inconveniences into something bigger and better. IMO, the video would be as powerful as it was if it only showed the good side of America.

Exactly right. It's a message aimed squarely at the heart of America, the people who uncritically praise patriotism without opening their eyes to what's really going on in this country. You're gonna sing along to this song just because it says the word "America" a ton? Well, that's fine, but here, have look at all of the things you're praising. You can't move forward until you recognize what's been going on our entire history. There are a lot of ugly things that have happened in this country and pretending they don't exist does nobody any good. If we really are to come together and make a "new America" we need to understand and learn from our past. It's the only way.
This is a great example of the subversive potential of pop music. I love when artists bother to try like this.
Loved the video
one of her best & most meaningful song since WFL.
the media is already going nuts with this & promo is comin in the next weeks when she meets obama.
this song will "hopefully" be an iconic moment in her career
I didn't ****ing know this and I installed it. It gave me two options, the $16.99 per month one and the $32.99 one. Both of them said "1 month free trial" on them so I just selected the basic one, and then it came up on my screen "Thank you for subscribing to TIDAL! Your 1 month free trial will end on May 6th 2015" and I was like what the ****...did I just subscribe to it or not?
I tried to follow Witchpop's instructions on how to unsubscribe, and that didn't work. I went into settings and it said "Subscription - PREMIUM" and you can't click it to change it. So then I tried going in through my iPhone settings. When you go into your App settings, TIDAL is completely empty
I ended up having to google how to unsubscribe from Apps. Went in to my iTunes and found out how to do it. Turns out I was subscribed to the $16.99 plan just because I wanted to try the 1 month free trial This is gonna be such a mess when all the free trials are over and people start getting charged. TIDAL better let people know they're about to start charging them, cause I had no idea if I'd subscribed for anything.
What a mess
TLDR; If you've installed TIDAL as a trial, make sure you go to your iTunes store, go to your Account Info, go to Settings, click 'Manage' next to where it says Subscriptions and make sure Auto-Renewal is off. If it isn't, TIDAL is going to start charging you as soon as the 30 day trial is up.
Anyway, as soon as I installed it, the video got uploaded online. What a waste of time. Anyway, the video makes me like the song more. It's very Lana-esque, but the footage used has more meaning.
A ****ing mess
Your commentary on the video is literally 1/8 of your post LOL

Ugh just..... beautifully done
I wouldn't say awful, just opportunistic. I'm always here for raising awareness like this, but Rihanna's never been outspoken when it comes to social issues so it seems strange that now that she has a song to sell she's suddenly using her platform to spread awareness. It doesn't sit well with me.
Beautiful video, though.
So when Rihanna discusses social topics and awareness she's "opportunistic" and a "try hard".
But when she doesn't she "isn't aware of her surroundings" and "isn't supportive and smart".

I have no words, honestly.
It's a really good video. I almost cried while watching the imagery, it's just...wow!
Some people may not and probably will not understand it but wow...
Me too.
It's so emotional and touching.
I damn near cried at the MLK part.
The part when they showed his dead body was a bit graphic tho.
