Queen, The Who, David Bowie, Bob Marley, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Prince

U2, Pink Floyd and Nirvana do not deserve to be there.

I disagree, as amazing as she is it's not like she is that much more significant/enduring than the men she was placed by (although not Nirvana, Pink Floyd or U2). While it's true that not being a man or making rock music kept her out of the top ten, for some people, that's reason enough to not be in the top ten.

And for me that's definitely not reason enough to keep her out of the top ten. I don't know what criteria they were asked to consider for this list, but I'm going to assume there was no short supply of anti-pop sentiment in their panel, and that most considerations of Madonna as a serious artist (she has her profound moments) were ignored. I will also assume they favored ideas of "talent" over cultural significance, which would also explain why Elvis was not in their top 5. Granted, in hate most of his music, but his legacy is cultural legacy is pretty major. But all this is just assumption, and perhaps I'm silly for thinking they may have overlooked certain criterion that I would have put a lot of focus in.
