Very catchy. This is placing 11th in terms of Marina tracks. It should be in her top 10 but it is time for Marina to start losing songs.

Girls is fun, but I think it's one of the weaker tracks. It used to be my least favorite off of the album.

Can someone tell me what The Family Jewels is about?
Each track has a different meaning. But I like that. Sometimes her lyrics can be difficult to connect a meaning to.
The other 3 albums are about love.

She also describes it as "a really diverse album stylistically speaking because I'm such a flexible writer, so there's a lot of pop on it, but there's kind of a lot of leftfield experimental stuff as well. I always thought that it was a social commentary / personal reflection. There isn't too much of a theme, but that comes with many debut albums.

Girls is a nice song. But it's rather weak.

Not necessarily. I think Marina is delving into the personalities and psyche of people she does not agree with to furthermore understand them and/or prove why she's right about them. But mostly she's just using these characters to project her ideas and emotions into song format. TFJ is much more political, where as EH is using characters she touched on in TFJ and making it personal.

TFJ is more general personalities whereas EH is focusing on one character.

Yes. I completely agree about the bit about politics. TFJ isn't so much focused on love, as it is with reactions and relationships. While Marina has said EH is about love.

Mostly this. Marina is embodying what she's criticized rather than just writing about them as she did in TFJ. That's why it's a concept album. EH gets inside the head of this kind of Marilyn/Madonna woman rather than make observations about her. Inherently, that makes it a much more personal exercise than TFJ was in regard to this sort of thing. It's examination by way of embodiment, which focuses it more on personal relationships and love in general.

Well not really political. I was looking for a word that describes the social commentary in TFJ. But in a way, the subject matter of the american dream and female's sexuality have become very political subjects lately.
