Well, even her new **** doesn't sound like Lady GaGa.
Only Girl isn't a far stretch from Don't Stop The Music.... and song that came out before Lady GaGa got NAMED Lady GaGa. You can have a seat.

If anything, Rated R proved what so many people had been saying about Rihanna for so long - that she had a weak fanbase. I was extremely disappointed with how it charted, because I was a big fan of the record. I didn't buy the excuses that people were making for it. When I think about it sometimes I cannot fathom the total collapse in support she experienced in a short period of time. The singles from Rated R flopped badly, even Rude Boy the supposed mega smash didn't sell that many copies. The song is incredibly catchy, it topped the airplay charts, realistically there was no reason for it to not sell as much as her singles from GGGB. Before GGGB Rihanna had been very hit and miss, but it seemed as though she had turned over a new leaf and had finally built a solid fanbase. Like many artists before her, I thought she would have been able to experiment/progress without alienating those that she appealed to. It appears that in Rihanna's case, it's more about the song rather than the artist. People are purchasing her music because they like the song, not because they like Rihanna.

Britney has a huge fanbase, but "Blackout" undersold because she was ******* crazy at the time.
Beyonce has a huge fanbase, but "B*Day" was flopping until she got the mega-smash "Irreplaceable."
Madonna has a huge fanbase, but couldn't even push her last album to platinum status.
Mariah Carey has a huge fanbase, but she can barely even get a hit single these days.
No shade meant at these amazing ladies. My point is: pop music fans can be extremely capricious; every artist struggles when their project is not marketed correctly.
Rihanna's incredible album "Rated R" was not give a proper chance to be a hit. I am convinced with singles like "Fire Bomb," "Stupid in Love," "Cold Case Love" or "The Last Song," audiences would have been exposed to the album's heart and soul, as well as its artistic merit. As it was presented, the era was schizophrenic and misrepresentative. (And yet the album is about to sell 1 million copies, so imagine how huge it could have been.)

Britney had no radio support at the time, it's not fair to compare the two.
B'day went to number 1, it was by no means a flop before "Irreplaceable" was released. It's interesting that Beyonce managed to get a #1 album when she was "flopping", something Rihanna has yet to do.
With regard to Madonna and Mariah, they're both at totally different stages in their career. They are past their prime, their fans are more likely to see them in concert rather than purchase new music from them. Neither of them are going to accomplish anything they haven't done before. The industry is ageist. I accept that every major star is going to have disappointments in their career, but with regard Rihanna she fell so quickly after she rose. In order to be successful an artist must have their own fanbase, but they must also appeal to the general public. Rihanna used to be very good at that, but she appears to have lost her spark slightly. She needs to broaden her appeal.

Girl bye, B'Day had already sold 5 million before Irreplaceable was even released. And it opened with over 500k!

Thank for ignoring the actual purpose of my argument. I can't honestly say I'm surprised.
Anyways, please check your facts:
http://www.billboard.com/#/album/beyonce/b-day/791335
Here, you can use the Billboard visualizer to see the album's chart run -- and the fact that it was seriously underperforming until "Irreplaceable" came along to save it.

Ashlee Simpson fell quickly after she rose.
Rihanna was around for over four years and through three albums before her first disappointing era hit. That is not an inconsequential career. And when you consider that her "falling star" still meant three top ten singles, a platinum album and a headlining tour, I wouldn't call it devastating.
Nevertheless, we all recognize that she wasn't as big as the GGGB era this time around. "Loud" will prove whether that was temporary misstep or permanent damage to her career.

Are you saying that B'Day only sold one million from Irreplaceable & the rerelease?
