This should be about Kesha. Now all the headlines will be about "America's sweetheart" donating a large amount of funds.
And people will click on those headlines with Taylor Swift in them and read about Kesha's story. Far less people would click on a story with Kesha in the headline...
Instead of spouting meaningless platitudes like some,Taylor actually provided some tangible support to Kesha. Kesha and her family know that Taylor supports them in this trying time. Taylor cannot overrule the judge, but she can show Kesha she is trying to help her.
Now Kesha's Mum has made this support public, the media will pick up on it and generate media attention for Kesha's situation. So those who want public support will get that from this as well.
Taylor obviously cares more about Kesha than some of those loudmouths who are spouting off in the media. Taylor had no obligation to give money to Kesha. Kesha obviously is in dispute with her record label, and until it is resolved, her ability to make a living (from making music) is blocked. By providing financial assistance, Taylor is helping Kesha support herself/her expensive legal battles in a very real way. $250k is a significant sum. Taylor generously donating that sum means she wants to help Kesha. Even though Taylor is very rich, she is not going to throw quarter of a million dollars on a cause she does not believe in.

I think some of the negative posters in here are ignorant 15 year olds. They obviously don't know how much legal battles cost. They think just because a person is a celebrity, they have infinite resources and riches.
No matter how much good a person does for a great cause, someone just has to ruin the show. Why can't some of you pretend to be a decent human being instead of drama queens? Taylor did not provide money to provoke drama.

A. Kesha's mom making this public. It makes Kesha look so desperate for cash. She's already at a personal rock bottom, and now she's airing the fact that she was donated money because she doesn't have much.
B. This should have gone to a larger cause rather to another millionaire. (battered women charities, etc.)
C. Taylor should have said something rather than throwing money at it. It makes Taylor look verrrrryyyy money focused.
