Just last week everyone was saying that 1989 was gonna be amazing and that her pop direction was amazing, and now everyone's just wishing her country pop sound was back and 1989 is gonna be disappointing.

It's not that bad... Not bad at all. It's cute. I can bop to this. Her voice sound annoying with in that higher squeaky register and with those effects. Wish it didn't sound as produced. Giving TD vocal teas.

“Welcome To New York” is the 80’s-tinged 1989 album opener that would have no place on any other Swift record and unfortunately, it’s good but it’s not great. An airy production pulses with innocent synths and mediocre topline melodies, it feels rather safe and should have no problem landing as the opening theme song for the next chick-flick that features some random girl pursuing her dreams in the big city of NY.
After standouts like “Shake It Off” and “Out Of The Woods”, this was bound to happen sooner or later but hey, I’m sure we have plenty of other monster cuts to look forward to on 1989. What do you think?
Her "vibratos" towards the end of the song sounding like she is on the verge of tears. Almost like a undulating bray without the precision of a true vibrato. Sloppy song in general.
It's not even a vibrato. She is clearly straining. The dissonance between her raw vocals there and the autotune in the chorus is quite bothersome. Should've autotuned it all or none of it.
