If Gaga's other singles are more 'GP friendly' and the album is good she could easily retain her force in the pop scene, maybe not as big as her HUGE debut, but get on the level of say Beyonce etc. Especially if she does the superbowl next year.

We can't just expect her to smash after so long out the game, most young teens don't even rate Gaga tbh...and even though I personally love the song, it is very polarising, some love it & some hate it - not the best lead single choice.

Rihanna was the first major pop girl to release this year.

You don't have to look back at that and judge people based on their reaction, mostly because it was hard for pop stans (especially on forums like ATRL) to finally acknowledge that digital sales are IN FACT dying.

And there's still a lot of people out here that would still judge a pop girl debuting with 100-150k in 2016. Nobody would have expected that back in 2015, but that's just the way it is. And there's no other way for digital sales than down from here on.

But as I said, you don't have to judge people cause they're stuck in a pop world were their favorite artists still sells tons of records. Everyone wants to forget how bad digital sales are doing and everyone wants for their fave to pull the biggest numbers possible.

Of course a lot of people would have expected higher numbers for her comeback, because she's Lady Gaga.

But at the same time a lot of people are still kinda stuck in the past with how digital sales are plummeting from month to month.

Looking at it into a more wider perspective, 100k doesn't even seem that bad for a girl 8 years into her career, without a massive era since 2011 to back it up and any notable hyping of it for the past few months. Britney debuted with 174k with a less hyped song and less promoted one and pulled 96k this time. Gaga premiered Applause which was definitely more anticipated than PI and went on to sell 218k first week. She's most probably pulling about 100k this time around, so I don't quite see any other conclusion we can take outta this than: The downfall of digital sales are affecting each artist.

This isn't only about Gaga, it's about all pop girls out there. Don't set your expectations too high for the upcoming future because I don't know when the time will come for another pop girl to debut with 200k first week. Only Adele maybe or Taylor, because they have the biggest fanbases in the US at the moment.


Longevity is the key for Perfect Illusion and I am almost convinced that with a well-organized era she could definitely pull that out and make it seem like a pretty decent hit in the end, at least in the US, just like Applause.
