Well, first take into account that nobody expected anything impressive from this rando YouTube twink. Having anything good at all is therefore a surprise. Then, you have to admit that the production is amazing, and if his voice appeals to a person then he's got the perfect package to get them to love the album. It's actually well-made and the work he put into it shows.
Most importantly, there are very few gay men who manage to make an album actually worth hearing (and please, nobody @ me over Sam Smith). It may not be your cup of tea, but for a lot of people who liked Carly's album and other similar-sounding pop records this year, it hits a perfect little niche where the music is amazing and the lyrics really connect with you. That was a huge part for me.
I loved EMOTION but i cant get into Blue Neighborhood...I liked Happy Lil Pill tho.
