Even as a fan I feel she's superfluous to pop right now, not because she's not as good or people hate her, but because her brand of pop doesn't seem current. Same goes for Britney and even Rihanna. It feels like we're still in a palette cleansing phase of pop, where it peaked in an extravagant climax in 2011 and since with Adele, Taylor, Lana, Lorde, Imagine Dragons, Ellie, Pharrell et all just took it to a fresher, lighter place. Katy works with that because she's so light and fulfils any pure-pop cravings. Beyonce, whilst extravagant, also fits into this phase with her non-dance, quite light approach.
Guess we just have to wait. I personally don't think her brand of dance is going to be relevant again for a while. Time to evolve.

IA mostly. Where music is at right now reminds me of that weird period of 2002-05 where "indie" bands with The in the title where in, and radio was mostly full of 50 Cent, Nickleback and Maroon 5. It was the worst time to be a pop fan.
Interesting that you bring up Britney because I feel like Gaga is where Britney was career wise after ITZ, which contrary to what some of my fellow Brit stans would have you believe, underperformed compared to her previous albums. It was just not cool to like Brit back then, I think even Ashanti was outselling her at one point IIRC, and Jessica and Ashlee Simpson were arguably more relevant. Awful times tbh. Then she had her breakdown, and that brought back attention in a morbid fascination kind of way. Yet through it all she put out a great album, Blackout. I think that's what Gaga needs, one great, influential album. I think she has it in her to do it, but it's just a question of how long we'll have to wait.

No, no. It wasn't him, I am sure. Wait a minute, let me do some search.

Morgan West! It's not Nolan, but cute too. He deleted the tweet, so I think it's actually true.

I couldn't agree more. Back in 2008 Gaga was so refreshing. Her music sounded like it was from outer space and her image was mysterious, yet entertaining. People quickly realized, 'hey, she can sing and play the piano!' She was a breathe of fresh air during a time where she was surrounded by people not as talented and not as interesting.
By 2013 we had seen the side-effects of Adele's massive success. Now Gaga stands out, but in the worst way. She doesn't fit in with her theater performances about songs no one understands. I don't want Gaga to fit in (though I would love some good break up, love songs), but I'd love for her to be different in a brilliant way - as she did before. This whole koons and pop culture talk isn't inspiring. I'd love for Gaga to let her visuals and performances speak for themselves.
Bad Romance was this concept she's trying to do now without Gaga singing about pop culture. She was too busy making it to write about.

This is what I mean - she needs to be fresh and interesting again...not dance/pop, RedOne-y, blonde in costumes etc. again. Fans are the worst culprits for that. They think that TF/M should be repeated, when it can't and shouldn't be. She has to do it in a new way.
I also feel she had more respect for pop culture before BTW. She was cynical, but that meant she knew what she had to do to play the game. Now I feel she looks down on it, and thinks she's above playing the game.

This is the thing - people neglect to appreciate that Gaga isn't in a never-before-seen situation here. They act like all other popstars are (and were) consistently successful and the end is nigh when you slip. Careers have highs and lows. Nobody is always on top.
I have no doubt in my mind that Gaga can really bring it with a defining album...I just think it's going to be a matter of timing. She has to pick the right sound and strike at the right time when her profile is in the right place to make a comeback. People love the drama of that.

Gaga will definitely have her moment again, like someone said. With the right time and the right sound, she will have her moment.
