Gimple doesn't follow the comics to a T.
His whole idea has always been using the elements from the comics he found most alluring and using them in a creative while all the while building on unique storytelling and character development to keep the audience of the comics guessing (hence this new Hospital arc that's unique to the show).
He's also said Melissa McBride's Carol has been a personal favourite since the first season and has always wanted to write for the character and develop it further because he feels it's a disservice to Melissa's talent to have her just stand around in the background.
no wonder she wanted to RUN everytime she's around these people she gets snatched.
so I'm sure he's here for strong females, look at what he's done so far.
