^exactly. U.S., despite the low sales and the taste us American people have, is a big music market. Most start in the U.S. then branch out internationally, but because so many U.S. acts are flopping or not selling the same these days, you got international artists branching to the U.S. (Amy, Lily, James, Belinda, etc.) so yeah.

^^they certainly didn´t do it outside of US....60% or rihanna´s sales are from outside US, and look at nelly furtado; barely 1,9 millions in US, 5,1 millions internationally...that means alot....and i shall´nt even start with pink´s latest; 880k in US, 4,1 millions internationally....some acts survive thanks to the fact that alot of countries still are huge in terms of cd-sales

Actually, there is nothing Rihanna can do to improve her sales. She has NEVER sold well album-wise no matter wut time it is. If other artists with weaker singles can sell sooo much more than her, digital downloads is not the main problem. Also, people seem to be forgetting about Ciara lately. She's had the same amount of success than Rihanna if not more (I'm gonna leave out the current singles "Can't Leave 'Em Alone" & "Shut Up And Drive"):
