I've followed Fifth Harmony since their time on X-Factor, Their Better Together EP, and their debut Reflection. Its been fun to really see them grow as a group. This is by far the best sounding album, and it seems they really found that sound that really works for them. While their debut was good, it was all over the place and felt, at times...generic. While this album isnt anything new on the music scene, it at least fits with the girls and works well with their style. There are aspects of this album that I wish were different, and taken up a notch, but overall its a great change from their debut.
Thats My Girl [6.5]
Im glad I waiting to do this review, because I TOTALLY loved this song at first. Now, after all has set in, it's just alright. I love the energy of the song, and there are little tidbits I like in the song, but overall its just alright.
Work From Home [7.0]
I feel like I never liked their bigger hits. Worth It was just meh to me, and so was this. Its gotten better over time for me, so it has grown on me and the production is good and they do sound great on this track and set up a really cool mood. But the song overall just hasnt totally clicked with me
The Life [8.0]
So at first, I liked the song, but felt it was too...predictable I guess. Over time the song REALLY has grown on me. And while Im not that much of a fan of it lyrically, its really does get stuck in your head. And I really enjoy Camila on the chorus for some reason.
Write On Me [7.5]
Another song that has grown on me. It was ok for me when it was first released but has totally grown on me over time. Its simple, but so effective. And Lauren part on this song is just
Again, like The Life, im not a total fan of it lyrically but it works.
I Lied [7.0]
So, I feel like im in the minority, but its a bit overhyped. I like the song, but I wouldnt say its anything amazing (Lauren is my fav and she really shines on this track, and its still not one of my favs). I just think its too...I dont wanna say basic but there is no fireworks for me on this track.
All In My Head [8.0]
This has a hit written all over it. I love the vibe, I love all the girls voices on this track and the mood it sets up. I think I would have given it a higher score, however my BIGGEST problem with the track is that its so repetitive! The lyrics for the first and second verses are exactly the same. its just a big repeat. Sometimes it works REALLY well for me (Kiss It Better by Rihanna) but here, it only works to a degree.
Squeeze [8.0]
Totally underappreciated. There is a sweetness from this song that we really havent heard from the girls before. And while there isnt anything spectacular about the track, its sweet and has a vulnerability about it that really lets the girls voices shine
Gonna Get Better [5.0]
I love Ally's voice on this track. Its ok, but the song couldve used an extra spark on this track.
Scared of Lonely [8.0]
Again, as I said before, Im glad I waited to review this track. I didnt see the reason why everyone loved this track. It was my least favorite when it was first released. Now, Im really feeling this track. Lyrics are really great, the girls sound great and the vibe is just right.
Not That Kinda Girl [9.0]
Still one of my favs. I love that whole 80's/Prince vibe that it has. And vocally its just fits each girl. That attitude is amazing. I feel like this does what Thats My Girl was trying to do, but did it way better. And Missy's part was just
Dope [9.0]
There is something...real about this track. Not wanting to fully admit your true feelings, but wanting that person to know they are special. And Ally's bridge is just heavenly.
No Way [9.5]
I adore this track. All of their voice are amazing and really showcase that emotion. And maybe Im just being a bit biased since Lauren is my favorite, but this song really just touches me in a way, and her voice REALLY showcases that emotion in this track. I wish it was a bit longer and on the standard, but this is my FAVORITE ballad by 5H
Overall, the girls really found a sound that works for them. I hope they continue to evolve and grow with their next album. They are in the right lane, they just need to push a bit more to knock it out of the park.
Top Songs: No Way, Not That Kinda Girl, Dope
Worst Song: Gonna Get Better
Overall: 7/10
