Weren't the early Beatles pretty much a "boyband" along with The Beach Boys, The Rolling Stones, etc.
And weren't their early singles pretty basic, accessible 'pop/rock' mature songs much like 1D.
While the boys might not be a five piece instrumental 'boyband', the elements are still there.
I think people put the Beatles on such a high untouchable pedestal (which is deserving).
But don't realize they were just as much of a boyband as recently seen with 1D.

We can all agree that the Backstreet Boys were bigger than One Direction is now (1D could get bigger of course, with time) and we can also agree that BSB and 1D are more alike than 1D and the Beatles, but how are the Backstreet Boys regarded just 10 years later compared to the Beatles 40-50 years later?

I don't have a physical copy yet and I wasn't sure if it was already released here but I checked my local store's website and they have it. Their 2nd best selling album atm and the 1st one is a Spanish act . Their slayage remains in every corner of the globe

My point was that the impact the Beatles had is bigger than that of any other "boyband" in history and I would say that the rest of the boybands combined. They had sold 545 million albums 9 years after their debut for god's sake
