You have to consider the circumstances. The song came after Birthday, which despite having very strong radio support, couldn't reach Top 10 on Hot 100. Obviously a song following up an underperformance was going to struggle from the start. It didn't help that radio DJs were refusing to add the song because they wanted "Walking On Air" as a single instead (very unprofessional). But even with minimal radio support, it managed to peak in the Top 25 because the support from the GP was strong. Over 350M VEVO views, over 100M Spotify streams, certified Platinum (coming for 2x Plat), around 700k in pure sales (1.1M WW) for a fifth single following an underperformance (sold about as much as Birthday, too). Plus This Is How We Do spent over 4 months on the Hot 100... that's impressive for such a "low" peaking song.

But sure, let's just judge it on its chart position. Even if we do that, a #24 peaking song that spends 18 weeks on the chart is not a flop by rule, an underperformance at best.

Kesha's C'Mon was her sixth consecutive Pop Top 10 and a Top 30 hit, so yes, it was a hit. But Kesha doesn't have NEAR the amount of streams as TIHWD... C'Mon is her lowest streamed song ever. C'Mon was a second single following a huge lead too and still only sold 700k in the US. Not really the same thing.

The video excuse is old too, TIHWD is only the third song from PRISM to get 100M Spotify streams, which is audio only. You can't watch the video on Spotify. People liked the song. That's the other thing, it had no promo because she was on tour.

It's generally accepted that TIHWD could have gone Top 10 with a performance and radio support. So "it wasn't going to peak high regardless" isn't true anyway.

But anyway, TIHWD stays winning with its almost half-billion total streams.

Stop lying to yourselves, we all know the era would have been so much bigger and the album would have sold so much more had she released Walking On Air and Legendary Lovers instead of Birthday and This Is How We Do. Another #1 single and possibly a 6th single as well. By The Grace Of God/Spiritual/It Takes Two would've been great choices for the final single.

She really messed it up after Dark Horse, idk what happened. Everything was so on-point durring the TD era...

Let's hope she will get her sh** together for her next era.
