That's not true. At least not in Cameroon or South Africa . They might be a little surprized and irritate if you two are two affectionate, because showing too much affection is not their forte sadly, but it will pass with time.
My cousin is homosexual, he lives there. Some members of the family are a little uncomfortable with talking about it with him but they don't treat him differently and nobody treats his boyfriends rudely either. I think it just depends where you grew up and how kind and opened people are.
