Wow, it's been a week. Sorry, I've been really busy with school stuff. I guarantee that the title will actually apply now. Hoping to end at ~5pm tomorrow.

I think Views has enough hype to warrant circumventing the request rule, so we'll start it now. This way I don't need to wait until I get three requests for something for the thread to be active again.
Now starting:
Drake - Views

I'll post my Bey review tomorrow I think. Also, there are a lot of amazing and relevant albums that got released in this 2-3 weeks, that I think we should review, so I thought maybe we could do something like this?
This week: Drake, Katy B and Death Grips
Next week: Anohni, Radiohead and James Blake
But idk, just my thoughts.
Honestly, TRF.
|
Actually, replace Death Grips with Meghan Trainor.
Honestly, TRF.

Will we be able to circumvent the three request things? If not, then count this as the first request I guess.

Meghan Trainor
Thank You
6/10
We all thought she would disappear after "All About That Bass", but her breakthrough success Title, against all odds Meghan Trainor managed to remain one of the biggest popstars of the moment, producing a hit lead single ("NO") and a mysteriously successful second single too ("Me Too"--but we'll deal with the songs later).
Thank You is the follow-up to Title, which was a very strong album with a refreshing sound. Unfortunately, her sophomore didn't manage to be as solid, as Meghan attempted quite too many genres: instead of sticking to doo-woop only like on her previous record, she mixed doo-woop with R&B, country and electronic music. The result isn't always the best, and the album lacks cohesion. A queen of sass song like "I Love Me" stuck between the ballads "Hopeless Romantic" and "Kindly Calm Me Down" definitely sounds odd, and the first three tracks, all extremely ironic and sassy, are quite deceiving compared to the theme of the rest of the album, which includes sweet and more serious-themed songs as well.
In conclusion, Meghan decided to make an album for all tastes, ignoring the possibility to create a cohesive and critically acclaimed album, as well as the prospect of bringing a fresh trend in the music scene like she did with her debut album.
1. Watch Me Do – 1/10
The awkward lyrics and the messy music track make this a pretty horrible opening track. It's like Meghan forgot how to be genuinely funny and tongue-in-cheek like on her debut album and started trying too hard. This song is a no from me!
2. Me Too – 3/10
Another song that somehow fails at being funny despite sporting Meghan's signature sass. It might be the forced melody, or the "if I was you I'd wanna be me too" lyric in the chorus, or the fact that I'm unable to have fun at this point... but this song is another resounding no.
3. NO – 9/10
The good old Meghan of the Title era is back with her genuine sass, her catchy melodies and her charisma. Despite the title, this is a big yes from me!
4. Better – 4.5/10
I'm not sure how I feel about Yo Gotti's rap verse (I think the song could've lived without it), but this song is definitely different from Meghan's previous material. Yes, hints of sass are still there when she's confident she deserves better, but the music is unexpectedly chill from Meghan.
5. Hopeless Romantic – 5.5/10
In the lyrics, Meghan exaggerates her feelings while singing over a dreamy string melody with vocal melodies, making this song rather grotesque.
6. I Love Me – 7/10
This song should've come out when "Happy", because it literally sounds like something Pharrell Williams would put on G I R L. You either love or hate this one, and I personally enjoyed it and its direct sass that doesn't try too hard.
7. Kindly Calm Me Down – 9.5/10
Meghan's most beautiful ballad right here! The production is fantastic, the chorus is dramatic, and the melody is catchy and not forced at all. A side of Meghan that we still needed to experience.
8. Woman Up – 4/10
Pretty bland compared to the rest of the songs, probably thrown in just to fill out the tracklist. The voices in the chorus are rather confusing.
9. Just a Friend to You – 8.5/10
Honest, genuine love feelings described in this ukulele song. The lyrics describe what a lot of young people go through in the most perfect way, and the male vocalist in the chorus gives it a very country vibe!
10. I Won't Let You Down – 9/10
A carefree song with a somehow nostalgic vibe to it. Despite having no single potential, this sweet song will leave the listener somehow impressed.
11. Dance Like Yo Daddy – 3.5/10
It sounds like a lesser version of Title's fun doo-woop songs and, despite the title being very promising, the content is nothing special and to me this is just a fun song to play once in a while.
12. Champagne Problems – 8/10
With an EDM-ish breakdown and a repetitive chorus sung with the chillest vocals ever, Meghan serves us the perfect pre-party anthem, perfect for when you're getting ready for a great night. If you got champagne problems, drink 'em up!
13. Mom – 8.5/10
This is super sweet, as well as super catchy! I love how she featured her mom Kelli's vocals on this song by including a phone call in the bridge.
14. Friends – 7.5/10
I love how Meghan doesn't only think of a partner when writing her songs, but she also dedicates them to the people she loves, such as her family and friends. This song's concept alone is really lovely!
15. Thank You – 7/10
You're welcome, Meghan! Despite some lows, you managed to serve us an album full of bops and hopefully you'll keep doing so in the future.

Will someone let me know when we review Dangerous Woman?
I'm ready to give it the praise it deserves as the best pop girl album of 2016, so far. Poor ANTi and Lemonade.

"THANK YOU"
MEGHAN TRAINOR
In May 2016, we have three mainstream albums being released consecutively per week which are Ariana's Dangerous Woman, Fifth Harmony's 7/27 and Meghan Trainor's Thank You, the one that was released first. Can Meghan set the par and reach the expectation for a Grammy winner ?
1. Watch Me Do : This is one of the worst intros of all time for me. When it was released as the second promotional single, after I listened to it once, I deleted it right away. It is very uninspring, uncreative and boring. 1/10
2. Me Too : In contrast with that shameful intro, "Me Too" is one of Meghan's most excellent tracks. I like the sassiness and the confidence showed in the track. 10/10
3. No : This is such a fiery anthem. You just can't remake a better 90s-influenced track than this. 9/10
4. Better (featuring. Yo Gotti) : I don't really feel the need of Yo Gotti's rap verse. Also, this is really different from Meghan's discography and different in a bad way. 4/10
5. Hopeless Romantic : I love it, the lyrics is dreamy and romantic but neither too exaggerated nor unnatural. 7.5/10
6. I Love Me (featuring. LunchMoney Lewis) : Meghan goes back to her best sound, funky, confident and loving herself. I think it is really cute to add Lewis in this track because his voice is simply just fit right in the vibe of the track. 8.5/10
7. Kindly Calm Me Down : One of the highlight tracks in this album. This proves that Mghan could totally do the ballad with the right production. We have a beautiful voice connects with a dramatic instrument which produces a beautiful ballad. 10/10
8. Woman Up : Another empowering and feminist anthem by Meghan. As much as I like the chorus, I personally hate the verses because it sounds really messy and just like the other songs by her. 4.5/10
9. Just A Friend To You : I just love the track, simply because I'm having the same feeling. Also, as I have a love for country music, the country vibe created by the ukelele sound in this track attracts me a lot 9/10
10. I Won't Let You Down : This is a total contrast with Better. If in "Better", she said that she deserved better then in this track, she determined to change in order to maintain this relationship. However, I don't like this track because it shows no personality andif I shuffle through the tracks, it'd take me a while to realize it's Meghan's track. 4/10
11. Dance Like Yo Daddy : The track transfers us a nice message is if you pay attention to what makes you happy, nothing else should matter and I think Meghan has delivered the message really well. 9.5/10
12.Champagne Problems : The best track of the album. With an addictive electronic sound and for the first time ever, I like repetitive lyrics, which is already great and there's no need to add anything more. 11/10
13. Mom (featuring. Kelli Trainor) : This is so cute. It both expresses fun and also emotion. Also, the idea of adding the phone call between Meghan and her mom works. 9.5/10
14. Friends : Another cute & sweet track. It makes me realize how happy I am to have some true friends outside the Internet to share my stories with. 9.5/10
15. Thank You (featuring. R.City) : The album ends with the title track and I can't find a better way to close the album than this track. It's a dedication to her fans who have always been on her side and brought her success. 9/10
For me, the album has a lot of bops and managed to reach people's expectation for Meghan. Also, this is a big improvement from her debut album, "Title", and it deserves a round of applause just because of that because it shows that Meghan will only exceed more in her career despite what people say.
