I used to be scared of
Letting someone in
But it gets so lonely
Being on my own
No one to talk to
And no one to hold me
I'm not always strong
Oh, I need you here
Are you listening?
Hear me
I'm cryin' out
I'm ready now
Turn my world upside down
Find me
I'm lost inside the crowd
It's getting loud
I need you to see
I'm screaming for you to please
Hear me
I used to be scared of
Letting someone in
But it gets so lonely
Being on my own
No one to talk to
And no one to hold me
I'm not always strong
Oh, I need you here
Are you listening?
Hear me
I'm cryin' out
I'm ready now
Turn my world upside down
Find me
I'm lost inside the crowd
It's getting loud
I need you to see
I'm screaming for you to please
Hear me
Masterpiece.
Flawless
Why isn't Don't Rush top 10 yet?
That's ok I'm still freaking in love with the fact that it made Top 20 so far
Ms. Swift performed as well – “Begin Again,” a lightweight song from her new album – but she wasn’t the least faithful to country tradition by a longshot. See also the toothless Hunter Hayes, who performed “Wanted” behind a piano and won new artist of the year, and Carrie Underwood’s “Blown Away,” a giant, dull beast of a song that suggested Meat Loaf more than any country singer.
Ms. Underwood has a gargantuan voice, one that calls attention to itself. So does Kelly Clarkson —like Ms. Underwood, a former winner of “American Idol” — which might explain why in her performance of “Don’t Rush,” a new song, she sang at about 20 percent of capacity, in a style that suggested she’s been listening to the late-1970s Crystal Gayle soft-country oeuvre.
Ms. Clarkson was one of the few performers to engage in outright nostalgia. Mostly, the past, as seen through an earlier generation of stars who performed, looked cloudy, and best left behind. Tim McGraw had a dolorous rendition of “One of Those Nights,” and his wife Faith Hill’s take on “American Heart” was flavorless and unsteady. These songs were residue of the country balladry of the 1990s and early 2000s, a style that couldn’t be less au courant.
Kelly Clarkson and Vince Gill released their new duet, "Don't Rush" just a few days ago.
But it became an instant classic after the two music legends performed the song live at the 2012 Country Music Awards on Thursday night.
Nodding to the stunning power of the flawless performance, Just Jared did rush a news item up to the web early Friday morning, along with a quickly uploaded YouTube video of the segment which aired on ABC.
Clarkson showed none of the nervousness she feared when she posted an update on her Facebook page on Wednesday, carrying herself beautifully alongside the country music superstar with a string of hits under his own belt.
Demonstrating why she became the first American Idol, her voice was strong and pure and she didn't miss a note. Not even when the duo tricked the audience into early applause before modulating into the last chorus, sounding even better than the studio recording.
That's why this stellar rendition earns 5 out of 5 stars.
The song is Clarkson's first real assault on the Country Music charts, helped along by an obviously impressed Vince Gill, who played electric guitar magically, dropping some of his trademark licks in his usual, unmatched style.
In fact, Clarkson was up for Female Vocalist of the Year, but lost out to Miranda Lambert.
It's a good bet that next time around, Kelly Clarkson will wind up on top where she belongs. Again. What do you think? Is Kelly Clarkson ready to dominate the Country Music world?
Kelly Clarkson and Vince Gill took the stage together to perform her easy-going new single ‘Don’t Rush’ at the 2012 CMA Awards. Clarkson has been slowly, but surely, drifting away from the pop world into the country one, and this song only speeds up the process for the former ‘American Idol’ winner. Her Gill-assisted performance was believable, beautiful and buoyant.
The song is Clarkson’s first true country single and she recruited Gill, a bonafide country star, to sing and play guitar. It was a good move. The song has a bit of a lazy, ’80s energy, and Clarkson and Gill worked their magic on stage. She faced him and sang to him most of the time with a big smile on her face. They looked and sounded like a duo that has been working together for decades. Their musical chemistry crackles.
Let us pause for a second and mention that Clarkson also looked absolutely stunning in a black and red, lace brocade dress that played up her newly trim figure. Clarkson had a hit on her hands with ‘Don’t You Wanna Stay,’ her duet with Jason Aldean, but after one live performance of this new song, we’re thinking she may very well eclipse that previous foray into country.
Clarkson can sing her butt off, but she showed taut restraint while delivering this song on stage. It was easy, breezy and excellent.
Everything inside you, about you
I want to know, taste, hold, love you anytime I want to
Let me show you, let me give you everything I have saved just for you
I know you love me but I'm gonna need more than what you're giving me
I want to feel you but I feel empty
You gotta help me, you gotta meet me halfway
There I see you, can you see me, closer now
Just tell me, show me, what it's gonna take to get you to trust me, love me like I know you can
