Kanye and Drake's biggest audience are white people. White people are the biggest consumers of hip hop and urban music
And what do you mean by most black people? The black people in your inner circle do not equal the tastes of black people across the world. Plus, black people pioneered rock and pop music.
He didnt lie. Blacks in America are more culturally inclined to like rap/hip hop. It's what is played the most in urban areas. Go to a school dance in a urban area vs suburban area and the playlist and songs will be very different. The taste in music is VERY different.
Doesnt mean Blacks dont or cant listen to other genres but trap music is IT in the communities. It is what we mostly listen too as a group of people.
I think it has nothing to do with that.
It's probably because of the Holidays, the media has barely talked about George Michael's death, because it's Christmas.
Sad news and Christmas are basically antonyms.

Right? I will not buy it because they died as I know that they won't deliver any new material and that depresses me, if I like an album.
Many people probably didn't remember him/his songs and realized that they liked them once they saw him/heard them on TV, etc. That's how promotion works.
Prince still had a niche with the black community...not to mention his impact was always present through music as every year there was some artist making a song that drew influences from him and he was still visible
GM is largely overlooked in the US even though Freedom! is perhaps more ubiquitous and known than any Prince song because of its heavy usage...it's just that no one would really be able to link it to him

Based on kworb's estimates, the #1 seller this xmas week will be lower than last year's #8.
If the same thing happens next year, the Xmas #1 will be below 100k.
(The #1 seller this xmas week looks to be lower than the #6 from 2005.)
ETA: Also might be the smallest % gap ever between #1 and #10 digital seller.
