I am not comparing Adele to Taylor though, the latter has never and won't ever hit a note to save her life while Adele is a singer. It has to do with the fact that Max produced it.

SML is not even a good Max song imo, i know he's more into simplistic productions nowadays but it sounds like a Taylor song, but simpler. i actually really like his work on "can't feel my face", simple clean but really good.
Adele's singing and guitar saves SML to be an ok track.

Shake It Off and Bad Blood are both worse songs than SML, though, and they both went #1. SIO got the lead single benefit with an Hello-like internet meme boost and Taylor promoted the hell out of BB.
GP have heard a lot of Adele ballads. They already know she's capable of writing them and singing them, and switching up the sound on a single or two after doing two ballads in a row wouldn't lose the people that like the serious side of her. Rather, SML (and WUTB, to an extent) would simply be something different for once and bring new interest. E.g. a friend of mine has always liked pure bubblegum pop (Katy, Ariana, Selena, etc.) the only songs she was interested in and bought on 25 were SML and WUTB. Clearly my friend can't be the only one like that on Earth, and most of those people don't have an Adele stan friend who showed them those songs back in November. Those tracks could really do well if promoted properly in the coming months.

^ I agree, Daydreams!
And while we're making requests to Columbia.... First of all, tell them it is NOT too late to throw a video together for "When We Were Young" if they want to save it. Second of all, tell them we need a merchandise store on her website. Thirdly, tell them we all need backstage passes for her tour! (Oh, and a live CD/DVD like Live at the Royal Albert Hall, as well!)

SML is better than most taylor songs, esp her pop songs.
but it's simpler and doesn't feel as hitty as swift's. that's what i mean.
but yeah it's too good to be a Swift-leftover

THAT is my absolute main priority from this era! it's almost as important as the tour imo, that concert was obviously amazing in all ways, possibly the best vocals and best show she's ever had! so many great songs, proffessionaly shot, outstanding vocals, classic venue...
they are stupid if they don't release it! like ****ing commies or smt...
they MUST release it, and UNCUT!!

SML is horribly generic. Nothing about it stands out at all. There's no vocal moment, no notable lyrics, or anything. I guess the "lo-huh-ver" and "treat her better" parts are somewhat notable but barely.
It's just radio candy and doesn't hold up well to her classics at all.
edit: I'm fine with it being the 4th single though. It's not like she'll lose any album buyers at that point. The album's already sold so much.

just realized, her singing SLY in the carpool karaoke is the only time she has ever sung the studio version of the chorus--at least to my knowledge. she slayed it.
crazy how when she's not nervous, she sings the songs (Hello, AIA, SLY) literally perfectly and exactly as she does in the studio versions. Hello, for example, she always has pretty significant pitch problems with belting the high B flat from the chorus, but in the carpool karaoke, she nailed it. interesting. girl, get over your nerves, you're an even better vocalist than people give you credit for!

She performed it at the Wiltern show.

Bad nerves will mess up your breath control. That's why her Oscars performance was underwhelming.

did you hear her voicemail reading on Ellen? she sang it like Hello, and belted the "Hello from the otherside" better and i think a half octave higher than ever, it was jaw-droppingly good.
and that was done right off the bat, sitting in a chair and all in good fun!
watch it!

Can I just say that WUTB has become one of my favorite songs on the album? I was always indifferent about it but it's always the one I sing in my head the most.
And I definitely see it being a hit. She HAS to make a video for it though. This no video ******** has to stop with her.

Same. I power walk to work to it daily. I love it. The Daydreamers that were at Wiltern said everyone went nuts when she did it. They were singing and dancing, best recption out of all songs.
