Hello Top 11. Results are here. You were all rated out of 10 as usual so nothing new here. The order of rates if the names aren't there are Myself, Anna, and then Ray.

If you weren't such a chatterbox, I wouldn't have even given this to you. But I knew from previous conversations you hadn't listened. *laughs evilly*
I think your writing skills really showed off. You always sound very intelligent and when it comes to writing professionally, that's one of the key components. It also goes toward your favor that you basically had the same exact taste as me with this album. All your favorite tracks are my favorite and the ones to stay away from were the same as mine. You keep stepping it up each and every round from the Merge on. This would have been your first 10 from me, but unfortunately you forgot an overall rating which is what wraps up the entire review.

+ You had a great overall tone and I loved the structure. You gave a really good analysis of the whole album first and then got more specific about each song. It was an enjoyable read.
- You did not put a grade/overall rating for the album which was required.

Ray - 10 - Ethan, at first sight, your presentation caught my eye. This is very professional and it's presented in a way that makes me think I'm actually reading a music critic's review on a local newspaper. I really liked how you separated your thoughts for each track paragraph per parapgraph and your DOWNLOAD/SKIP system definetely makes it easier for the listener to get a grip on what's hot on the album and what's not. Even the separation from upbeat/ballad was great. A great job overall. True redemption by yourself considering you hadn't done that well as you usually did.

Michelle Williams - Unexpected
medosuxx

REVIEW By medosuxx
Michelle Williams's "Unexpected" album opens up with the the Unexpected Intro, a nice little song that helps get you in a proper mood to enjoy the mood. The album then goes on to "Hello Heartbreak" a nice diffusion of heartbreak and dance floor with the powerful chorus where Michelle sings “Hello heartbreak, it’s good to see you, happiness came, but it just lets me down..”
Michelle carries the same mood from "Hello Heartbreak' into "We Break The Dawn" - the first single from the album - yet another "dance floor love story" set in a club. The tone then goes down and slow for the "Lucky Girl" Interlude, you prepare yourself for a slow song but before you know it Michelle turns it up for the actual "Lucky Girl" song, an uptempo song filled with metaphors and similes where she sings “He works me like a full time job, but I love it when he takes me down, so out of this world..” - pretty Unexpected for the Artist with two previous Gospel albums including her debut.

Michelle then slows it down and gets it a little more personal with "The Greatest" - one of the best tracks the album has to offer, you get to see a little of the true Michelle in this track. Unlike the other tracks, she doesn't seem lost in the club.
Then Michelle transitions into sexy and sultry yet classy for "Hungover" - Michelle sings in a sweet and soft voice over a rather powerful beat, opposites attract?
The title track - "Unexpected" - a mid-tempo track that gets you hooked it's addictive chorus, Michelle sings about a relationship that ended where Karma has come to do it's job. She sings about how happy she is that the tables have turned and how her ex gets to taste his own medicine.
The only feature on the album is with Flo-Rida on a remix for her groovy - We Break The Dawn - entitled “We Break The Dawn Pt. 2”, Flo adds his own flavor to the song which helps contribute to the overall feel of the song.
But amongst the dance and groove, Michelle put in some beautiful mid-tempos and ballads Michelle delivers the mid-tempos and ballads flawlessly in tracks like "Stop This Car", "The Greatest" and "Stop This Car".
Stand Out Tracks: Till The End Of The World, Stop This Car & We Break The Dawn
Stay Away From: Hello Heartbreak, Private Party & Thank U
Overall, a good album, with up to par production and beautiful poetic lyrics:
Not an album I'll be listening to very often but will be listening to every once and a while.

We once talked about Kelly and i figured since you listen to Kelly, I might as well go with someone similar to her and obviously that couldn't be Beyonce. I'm glad you enjoyed the album. It's much better than what I would expect from someone who even Kelly Rowland makes look like a flop. I love The Greatest as well. This one wasn't bad at all but it was a little less of what we got from others. You seemed to more describe rather than give your personal opinion which is why when i saw you gave it a 4 out of 5, I was a bit startled since you didn't say much about how you felt. I did notice you left out Thank U's description. I was a little torn with what to score you but ultimately I decided on...

- The whole thing was rather superficial, you described the songs instead of reviewing them, which makes the final rating of 4/5 seem a bit random. There just seemed to be some substance missing.

Kristinia Debarge - Exposed
DanceForYou
Kristinia DeBarge
Exposed (Album Review)
by: DanceForYou
Kristinia impresses with diverse debut
Kristinia Debarge comes from a very musical family. Her father is James DeBarge who was part of a very popular 80's band named DeBarge. They scored four top twenty hits together during their time together and have sold over two million albums. With such talent in her family Kristinia was surely expected to come out swinging with an amazing debut album. In my opinion, she did a pretty good job in succeeding with that task.
The album kicks off with the addictive and catchy track "Somebody", an ode to falling in love. The production is that of a purely pop anthem but Kristina's powerful vocals give it a soulful/r&b tinge. This song really makes you wanna dance and is a great kick-off for the album. The second track, "Future Love", is a souring pop ballad that slows down the pace a bit in comparison to Somebody but still has a thumping beat and an extremely catchy chorus that makes you wanna sing right along and is perfect to listen to in your car on a sunny summer day. Easily one of the best songs on the album! The third track "Speak Up" has more of an R&B production than the first two tracks which matches well with Kristina's voice. Another breezy and cute track, but definitely not a standout although the chorus once again packs an extremely catchy hook. After that is the lead single "Goodbye" which no doubt was the perfect choice to lead off the album. The song has a summery/beach vibe and is the perfect anthem for any girl who has just been through a breakup. The undeniable dance smash became a huge top twenty hit and rightfully so. The fifth track, "Sabotage", has the danciest beat yet. However the song has an interesting dark and gritty edge. That paired with Krisitina's strong distinctive vocals and another amazingly infectious chorus makes this fantastic track a clear standout on the album.
The second half of the album features more slower paced songs than the first half. The next track, "Died In Your Eyes", is a heartbreaking power-ballad narrating the moment when you accept that your lover is lying to you and will no longer deny the signs. It has a more stripped back production and shows off Kristina's gorgeous vocals. Another clear standout. "Powerful" is a powerful (no pun intended), edgy, and catchy mid-tempo with a strong thumping beat with Kristina singing about shutting down her man and no longer letting him have any control over her. "Cried Me a River" is another well-written song about heartbreak. The song is interesting because lyrically the song is sad but the production doesn't match that vibe. This song could be a full-out ballad in my opinion, but isn't. Still a sweet song. The next two tracks, "Doesn't Everybody Want to Fall In Love" and "It's Gotta Be Love", are one in the some. Pleasant bubblegum pop tracks that are cute but don't stand out in an anyway. Not terrible but clear fillers. The album ends with "Disconnect", another strong r&b-tinged mid-tempo about missing your ex and not being able to move on. This song is more of a grower but once you get into it it's quite beautiful. I do think the song is a bit overproduced and should of been more stripped back and emotional but it is a good album ender nonetheless because it reminds you of Kristinia's talent and diversity.
Overall, Exposed is really impressive. The majority of the album is packed with catchy hooks and wonderful addictive beats. In addition to that Kristina is one of the few artists who can successfully pull off many different genres because of her soulful voice that lends a distinct sound to every song on the album. Also, considering the fact that with most artists' debut albums end up being far from their best work overall, Kristina's great debut is already ahead of the pack and shows off the huge potential that she possesses.

We had talked about her in the past and I decided to give you her since her debut is one that should be talked about more often. I liked how since this was her debut, you gave us a little intro as to who she is. I agree with your stand outs and worst tracks pretty much perfectly. I agree she had so much potential considering her debut was better than almost all the main girls in the industry right now. It's a shame they gave up on her so fast but that's a discussion me and you can have some other time. I liked how it was just split into almost an essay format with an intro, body, and conclusion. Only tip I can give is maybe bolding or italicising the tracks because they get kind of lost in the work. It was an enjoyable read without you describing each and every lyric of every song.

- Sometimes it seemed a bit repetitive how you described the songs and I also felt like you didn't go too much beyond the surface.

Ray - 9.5 - Nicole, I liked how you placed a title for your review based on your thoughts on the album and you presented a very well-rounded review. You made me want to hear "Somebody" when you called it a powerful pop anthem. I also liked the star system you used, it's really well presented and looks professional. It's also very nice when reviewers tell us beforehand which tracks should we be keen to hear, so your "Check Out" part of your review it's very useful. And I must say, I must concur with your description on Goodbye's summery vibe, that was such a flawless song Had Rihanna sang that, that would've been #1 for several weeks.

Album Review:
The Pretty Reckless - Light Me Up
By: Stevie
The New York based alternative rock band, fronted by actress slash singer-songwriter Taylor Momsen has their debut album, Light Me Up out now. Despite the grabbing cover of an innocent looking child in a leather jacket holding a match, the effort didn't garner many reviews from critics. So, I'll start off by giving my own track-by-track review of the record and score each track out of ten, which will be followed by an overall average score that represents a general consensus on the album. So without further ado, track one:
1. "My Medicine"
The album starts off with a catchy number that attempts to show off Taylor's bad side: she sings "I'll drink what you leak, And I'll smoke what you sigh" over relatively loud electric guitars. The song lyrically has no regard for personal health, but who seems to care? This band is obviously full of bad-ass rockers, and this opener rightfully sets the tone. 8
2. "Since You're Gone"
Next is the faster paced and arguably more daring "Since You're Gone", which can't help but possibly lyrically remind the listener of Kelly Clarkson's "Since You've Been Gone". The track is tough and even throws in a bit of sass, as Momsen sings about how she doesn't miss a certain someone in her life. 7.5
3. "Make Me Wanna Die"
This was the band's debut single, and with its verse, bridge, chorus structure it isn't that hard to tell. It opens with a short and oddly soft ABBA sample which doesn't reflect what the next three and a half minutes of the song will be like. Momsen shows all kinds of emotion on this song: passion, regret, feelings of not being good enough. Towards the end she says "I'll die for you my love, my love" with the help of Ben Phillips' backing vocals. The song is quick to go to extremes, but the message gets blurry in the mix of all the emotions. 6.5
4. "Light Me Up"
The title track comes off as a bit more relaxed than the previous tracks, as Momsen is looking for some relief in the form of a smoke. It's empowering, but could have been pushed a little further. 7.5
5. "Zombie"
The fifth track finds Momsen lost in her own world, as she compares herself to a zombie. It's one of the catchiest tracks on the album thus far, but is singing "Dear all of you who've wronged me / I am, I am a zombie" supposed to be a display of self-pride or self-deprecation? 7
6. "Just Tonight"
The album's third single isn't any more bright than the other tracks. It has lyrics that tell about possible relationship and lifestyle struggles. The song fails to provide interesting or descriptive song writing, and doesn't stand out amongst the other tracks. 6.5
7. "Miss Nothing"
Momsen claims the album's second single is about "Mary Magdalene after the crucifixion of Jesus", and while I'm not sure if the band has the writing capabilities to provoke a deeper and specific meaning such as that, this track is more interesting than some of the other songs it follows. It features a temporary break of the guitars during the bridge, and is that a hint of synthesizers I hear? Oh my! 8
8. "Goin' Down"
This track is one of the loudest, and it's filled with teenage struggles: a cheating boyfriend, loss of innocence, and a disconnect with religion. It could be fun in parts how Taylor is certain she's "goin' down", in reference to hell, but with such out-there lyrics such as those that reference circumcision, it's sure to keep you questioning. 7
9. "Nothing Left To Lose"
A more laid-back number and probably the most old school rock influenced track on the record with some country vibes thrown in there. Momsen somberly sings about how she has "nothing left to lose" with some more lyrics about cigarettes, the typical "Rock N Roll" life and even some mentions of Jesus plus Elvis. 7.5
10. "You"
While it's nice to see a more toned down version of the band after the volume of the earlier tracks on the record, this is definitely a snooze. It's also the most lyrically barren track here, with the longest words in the whole song being "steal" and "stole". The repetitions of "la la la" and "love" don't help their writing skills either. 5.5
11. "Factory Girl"
The album's closer picks things up again with thumping drums and excited guitar. Momsen just wants to party, as she seems to forget about all the struggles she previously sang about. Kind of an odd way to end the album. 7
Overall:
The band's debut album provides the listener with typical alternative rock music and poor song writing. Light Me Up discusses the highs and lows of life (but mostly the lows) through the reoccurring motif of smoking. Those unnatural highs and lows are compared to a life full of struggle and young angst. All of this is surrounded by the all too familiar "rock star" scene, with parties, hook-ups, drugs, and a general loss of innocence. The band will have to develop their own style in the future if they want to get more recognition.
Standouts: "My Medicine", "Miss Nothing"
Avoid: "You", "Make Me Wanna Die", "Just Tonight"
Grade: C- (71%)

Dylan - Stevie - The Pretty Reckless - Light Me Up
You were hard to choose from because we're not really personally connected on here like I am with other contestants. Don't get me wrong, I consider you a friend on here but you get the point. I basically just gave you something less pop and went with it. I enjoy everyone who put intros since you can't just jump into a writing. This reminded me of a Billboard Review in a way. The lyrics were pretty negatively received but I actually do enjoy the album which I will admit made it harder to relate to your not so positive review. I mean my three favorites were put under the stay away from I do think you handled the unbiased part well. It seemed like you gave it a chance. Your review fits in with what other critics said. It wasn't my ultimate favorite but it was cute.

Stevie:
+ You brought your sarcasm/sense of humor into this which made it entertaining to read.
- Your main focus seemed to be the lyrics, and it almost felt like you didn't even give this record a chance because you felt the lyrics were poor. I think considering how old she was when she wrote these songs, they're actually rather good. You also put two of the best songs on the album under "Avoid".
|
Quote:
Ray - 9.5 - Stevie I found your review truly great and very complete and professional. I liked the structure and how each track individually has its own score. I also found your writeup very unbiased and professionally written. The Standouts/Avoid great is also a solid addition altogether with an average that shows up statistically a very trustworthy percentage on how good the album is.

Killer Queen
The Veronicas - Hook Me Up
Killer Queen
Album Review: The Veronica: 'Hook Me Up"
by ATRL Member: Killer Queen a.k.a Lukey
The Aussie twin duo Lisa & Jess Origliasso are back. Coming of their debut album, 'The Secret Life Of…, which was quite a lacklustre of an album, The Veronica's are back with their high anticipated album 'Hook Me Up'. Upon listening to the album, the questions the came to mind is; is the album better than its predecessor? The answer after listening to this album, is yes. But does that mean it was a great album?.
'Untouched' is the admittedly a great opening track for the album. It features everything that is great about the album. From bizarre alt-pop waves of strings, to string section sampling and dissonant guitars with motor mouth vocals in the verse, it all leads to a great and catchy hook in the chorus. Very few albums are able to grab your attention from the get go, but with Untouched, it demands attention from the begining. From Untouched, the song then fades out and then into the next track and the lead single, 'Hook Me Up. At first listen, I wasn't grabbed by it, but after a couple of more listen, the song began to become infectious, and it truly proves it point as being one of the standout tracks of the album. The song is filled with bold synths and electronic guitars. The one-two punch with the first and second song, prove how good of an opening this album is.
With two great opening tracks, This Is How It Feels, the third track to the twin duo album is a major let down and is the little spiralling point of the album. The song is clearly about a heartbreak and of someone is revengeful. "I want you to know, this is how it feels, when you wait for a call that never comes' The driving beat, keyboards, and backing guitar is what really makes the song a disappointment. It really doesn't scream 'The Veronicas' upon listening to it. 'This Love' which is the third Australian single off of the album, features a more straightforward synth-pop sound. The song almost has a little bit of an 80's vibe towards it. It may take a few listens to see that, but I managed to catch some snippets in it especially with the keyboards. The track isn't outstanding but it's another solid track.
'I Can't Stay Away' is the fifth track and features some lively beats which have a fine pop/rock beats towards it. It's a good song, being about someone who should be leaving a relationship, but just can't stay away from that person, but overall it's more of a filler track rather than a highlight of the album. 'Take Me On The Floor' is more of a notable song not by it's synth, keyboards, rhythmic sounds, but more of the brief lyrics of bi-sexulaity. "I wanna kiss a girl, I wanna kiss a boy". Whilst it isn't controversial, it was something in which stood out for me in the song. 'I Don't Want To Wait' is a much slower song of the album, and is a strong that doesn't really stand out compared to the rest of the album, but rather it's just there. 'Popular' is a song in which would definitely appeal to the young generation the most. The girls say that the song is “taking the piss out of famous people". The only good thing about the song is the hook leading up to the chorus. As for the rest of the song, it's just a little to much electronics used to satisfy my listening and liking of the song.
'Revenge is Sweeter (Than You Ever)' is another standout track to add to the collection of 'Untouched' & 'Hook Me Up'. The track title even became the title of their tour in which was to help to support the album. The production of the song is flawless, with it's subtle strings to begin with, slow guitars, and it's brilliant chorus, it's just hard to not fall in love with this track. On a side not, this track should have been released as a single. 'Someone Wake Me Up' is the best track to follow 'Revenge is Sweeter' as it's another knockout track of the second half of the album. The progressing of the guitar and the emotions of the voices of both Jess & Lisa is what makes the track a knockout. The girls definitely delivered with this song. 'All I Have' is a song in which Hook Me Up could have used without. It's electronic beats and the production of the song just spoil the song and makes it hard to get through the song. This song is the definition of what a filler is on an album. It's quite disappointing track to follow 'Someone Wake Me Up'. 'In Another Life' is a surprise track on the album. The first half of the song is stripped right back from the rest of the album with just a loverly piano ballad. On the other hand, the second half of the track comes in with a dark guitar sound. This is a nice contrast & it's not losing their sound of who they are in the song by introducing the guitar. Whilst it's the best track or a standout, it definitely is a good choice to close the album with.
Now back to the question in which I asked in the opening paragraph of my review. But does that mean it was a great album? Whilst it wasn't a great album, overall it was pleasant to listen to. I believe fans of the twins will be pleased with the album and the direction they took with it, but as for others who aren't quite fans, it may be either a hit or a miss with them. But in my opinion, the album is worth the buy, even with the filler tracks such as 'All I Have' , 'This Is How It Feels' & 'I Don't Want To Wait'
Knockout tracks of the album: 'Untouched', 'Hook Me Up', 'Revenge Is Sweeter (Than You Ever) & 'Someone Wake Me Up

Quote:
Dylan - Killer Queen - The Veronicas - Hook Me Up
I flat out asked you if you had heard this so it wasn't too subtle. I agree with your whole opinion of the album basically. Your stand outs are pretty on par and the filler tracks are clear. I liked your overall review. It seemed very fair. You like the album but you don't think it's the best album of the decade. You said you were happy with what you sent and you should be. It's definitely a step up from your worst round on any season you've been on last round.
10/10

Kris Allen - Thank You Camellia
potentbreakupsong
potentbreakupsong - Kris Allen - Thank You Camellia ALBUM REVIEW
Better With You
Lyrically, the album opener of Thank You Camellia is bright and uplifting, describing the ability of Kris’s significant other to make him feel better even in the worst situations. Paired with the bouncy, infectious beats, the song gives off an irresistible vibe that makes it nearly impossible to hate. Great first track that sets expectations high for the rest of the album. 9/10
The Vision of Love
This track goes for a motivational message, urging listeners to stand up for what is right and commit random acts of kindness. The soaring chorus and the inspiring video greatly contribute to this theme. Overall, the song and its message are executed extremely well, and you can feel Kris’s passion as he sings the lyrics. Perfect first single that possibly even tops Live Like We’re Dying. 10/10
My Weakness
This is probably one of the happiest songs about missing someone to ever exist. The lyrics don’t exactly match the mood of the song, and it seems a little like an inferior version of Better With You, but it’s still catchy and enjoyable. It might have even made for a good single with its whistling hook, which was in style at the time (Pumped Up Kicks, I Wanna Go, Good Life, Whistle). 7.5/10
Out Alive
Now we come to the first “calmer” song of the album. Out Alive describes a relationship that is going through tough times, and Kris’s motivation to stay in the relationship and work things out rather than break up. It’s one of those tracks that never really takes off, and without any significant “wow” factor such as great vocals or production, it ends up coming off as a little bland. Not bad, just not very good either. 6/10
Monster
A unique and experimental track. Monster is about love, like most of the songs on the album, but it focuses on the darker side of a relationship in which Kris warns his significant other about the dangers of his personality. The percussion in the background also helps create a sinister feeling. Kris is probably better suited for the upbeat, cheerful pop-rock songs, but it’s a pretty decent attempt at a different kind of sound. 7/10
Blindfolded
After the disappointment of Out Alive, Kris comes back strong to show how to properly execute a pop-rock midtempo. The song is about Kris’s determination to reunite with his lover despite the distance between them; it’s full of passion and most importantly, brilliantly written and produced. The huge chorus, the climax in the bridge, the way the production dies down then builds back up at the end…amazing. Truly a hidden gem. 10/10
Teach Me How Love Goes
A mellow track that is somewhat reminiscent of Ed Sheeran’s music. It’s a bit difficult to craft a soft folk jam like this without losing the listener’s interest along the way, and Kris doesn’t quite pull it off here. Sure, the song’s subject matter doesn’t exactly demand attention (Kris’s quiet request for someone to help him learn to love), but similar to Out Alive, it doesn’t have any unique characteristics to stop it from becoming bland and forgettable. 5.5/10
Rooftops
Another cute love song in the vein of Better With You. The production is definitely the highlight of this track; the guitar, piano, and rhythm combined give it a bluesy and soulful feel. However, the rest falls a little flat; Kris’s talk-singing comes off as slightly goofy and comical, and while the chorus attempts to be huge, it’s really not that catchy or interesting. A wasted opportunity for an amazing instrumental track. 6.5/10
Leave You Alone
The first breakup song of Thank You Camellia describes Kris’s realization that he can do nothing to help mend his broken relationship, and eventual decision that it is best for them to separate. The subdued nature of the production helps to convey the sadness and pain he feels over this decision. It may not be the most exciting track in the album, but it does have a solid chorus with passion and emotion, which boosts it past otherwise similar tracks like Teach Me How Love Goes. 7.5/10
Loves Me Not f/Meiko
Kris attempted a duet on his debut album with The Truth (featuring Pat Monahan), and people criticized the presence of Pat on the track as unnecessary. This time around, he definitely got it right. The song is a true duet, with Kris and Meiko having nearly equal parts; the lyrics also alternate to show the different points of view for the two lovers. Plus, they just sound so cute together. 8/10
You Got a Way
Seems like Kris got a little inspiration from Billy Joel on this piano ballad. For a large part of the song, it’s truly just him and the piano (the percussion comes in about halfway through), which gives it a very smooth and sincere feeling. It’s also beautifully written and conveys Kris’s love for his significant other without sounding over the top or cheesy. A little boring? Sure. But it achieves the goal of being calm and relaxing, and brings the album to a nice close. 7/10
Highlights: Better With You, The Vision of Love, Blindfolded
Tracks to Skip: Out Alive, Teach Me How Love Goes, Rooftops
Average Score: 7.64/10
General Comments: A very solid second effort from the Season 8 Idol champ. Kris poured his heart and soul into Thank You Camellia and it shows, especially on highlight tracks such as The Vision of Love and Blindfolded. The resounding theme in the album is love; however, this is a broad subject, and Kris explores it in many different ways, so it avoids becoming too repetitive. In fact, there isn’t a single song that sticks out as being bad. The worst the album has to offer are a few boring and forgettable tracks about halfway through. These tracks do sink the album down enough to prevent it from being excellent (8 or above average), but fail to ruin its cohesiveness or level of quality. Overall, if you’re not much of a soft rock/HAC fan, then Thank You Camellia might not be the best album for you (Kris stays true to his roots in pretty much every song). However, if you are a fan of these genres, then the album is definitely recommended; it’s worth your time and money.

Nick, ima let you finish, but Out Alive is the best song of ALL TIME. Just kidding but it is my favorite. Anyway, I chose Kris because he used to be a popular person in the games section back when jone was on here and since you play in almost all MCs, I figured why not. I enjoyed it very much. You were obviously very optimistic. I could tell you didn't go in with a piss poor attitude and you did give him a fair chance. I was impressed by the album too. It was definitely more of an album to redeem himself artistically than commercially. Yours was similar to Stevies in terms of rating. Like I said in his, it reminded me of Billboards reviews. Good job.

Kelly Rowland - Here I Am

Review Of Kelly Rowland - Here I Am by t.A.T.u.
Ms. Kelly Rowland, the former Destiny’s Child runner-up, gave us “Here I Am” starting with the robo-groove of ''I'm Dat Chick,'' a cocky and cheeky song that feels like boxing-ring-tough assertions of dominance It’s a one night out just for girls with ****ty outfits and high heels, this song may bring us Beyoncč Teas, but since Mrs. Jay-Z settles into a life of respectability feel sure isn’t her. Going with “Work It Man” this song was totally a grown and an unexpected piano run by Lil Playy.
The fact that Jim Morrison produced this song is an ensure that this is going to be great, and gave us nothing less “Motivation” Her breathy, sultry delivery instantly opened the world of babymaker jams to Kelly, a world that was before largely closed to her. This went through a sleeper hit to a smash in the urban music and then a multiformat smash. Lil Wayne just add the perfect complement to this song, he has one of his best verses of his career. This song has sexual charges popping all over the track.
Big Sean assists her on “Lay It On Me” a friendly radio song, that gave her a decent hit on urban music, but Big Sean keeps the track afloat: “Girl it's your world, I'm just chillin' on the map.” she’s pushed into shouty singing on “Feelin Me Right Now” is about Rowland falling in love with her own reflection in the mirror that give us “Diva” teas. “Turn It Up” & “All Night Long” are divided evenly between made for radio hip-pop anthems and house-influenced dance jams. By contrast, "Keep It Between Us" is a romantic and emotional song.
After her smash with David Guetta, “When Love Takes Over’ Kelly tried to make it on the dance music with “Commander” & “Down For Whatever” this aren’t exactly groundbreaking, but they deliver what the genre demands. This last one gave us a stomping Euro-Dance.
After When Love Takes Over became a worldwide hit, she started working on it, released Commander in the UK, Grown Woman and Rose Colored Glasses in the US, but they all flopped and some of them aren’t even in the CD. So she teamed up with Lil Wayne to record Motivation and got the biggest Urban hit of that year, that song sold itself the whole album.
In this album Kelly proves her versatility as an artist, going through the urban jams to the dance tracks, also Kelly proves a confidence that we had not seen before. The master key in this album are the versatility and of course the collaborations. Lil Wayne, Big Sean & Rico Love particularly provide good verses and features to his songs.
Kelly Rowland is not Beyonce’s sidekick anymore, In this particular album Kelly Proves herself and the people she is Kelly Rowland, a real singer.
Highlights: Motivation, I'm Dat Chick, Lay It On me
Worst Tracks: Turn It Up, All Night Long

I honestly had no reasoning as to why I chose this but you did mention it made you a fan so I'm glad I did Omar. Yours had a lot of potential to be great but i feel like you were to vague at times similar to the other member of DC's review by medo. You did have all the requirements there but I'm not sure you did much but scraped the requirements if that makes sense. I had no idea you didn't like the songs you put on the stay away from list because you didn't really go into that, That was the only real problem. If you had gone further into it, it would have been a good round for you Omar.

+ You mentioned every song and there is some sort of summary at the end.
- It felt rushed and you did not go into detail about most songs at all. I wish you had described them better in regards to lyrics, mood, instrumentation, as well as given more of a review in terms of quality. Instead, you focused a lot on what songs were hits and which ones flopped. You chose two tracks as worst tracks but I couldn't find a reason why.
|
Quote:
Tatu - 9.5 - I know how hard it was for you to write a review on Urban music which you don't know a darn thing of, but I really appreciate your efforts on this one, and I'm really happy you decided to praises what is basically Kelly's best album. The star system you used is a good one and I'm glad you described Jim Jonsin's sultry production and Lil Wayne's standout verse on Motivation being crucial factors to the song's massive success as this album's lead single.

Successful business woman, reality television star, and singer Successica Legendson's third studio album is flawless. And that's all you really need to know.

Track #01 | Do About It
Immediately I get Danity Kane teas. While the lyrics are pop-esque, the beat is very R&B. Although I find myself bopping, I couldn't imagine this working as a single. Overall a good song. | Rating: ☆☆☆☆ out of 5
Track #02 | Baby Doll
This is a JAM, and I'm surprised it was slept on by the general public. This hip-hop / pop influenced single is quite the bop. While the lyrics are a bit amateur, it doesn't matter because you'll still want to get up and dance. | Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ out of 5
Track #03 | Liar Liar (Feat. Flo Rida)
Yet another hip-hop / pop jam. While this isn't necessarily a club banger, you'll find yourself bopping along to the beat and wanting to turn the bass up. | Rating: ☆☆☆ out of 5
Track #04 | Save The World
Within the first 30 seconds, you can tell this is obvious filler. A weird beat accompanied by even weirder lyrics leads up to a very lackluster chorus. One of the most skippable tracks on the album. | Rating: ☆☆ out of 5
Track #05 | Here I Am
The first ballad on the album is a midtempo that sounds like it wants to be a love song but the lyrics say it's meant to be an inspirational anthem. It's kind of hard to figure out the message of the song. | Rating: ☆☆☆ out of 5
Track #06 | Already Gone
On to the second ballad of the album. "I'm already gone while you're trying to hold on." is a lyric from the powerful chorus. This song about moving on from a broken relationship is memorable and definitely single-worthy. Easily one of the best tracks on the album. | Rating: ☆☆☆☆ out of 5
Track #07 | I.O.U.1 (Feat. Kardinal Offishal)
This bop about giving girls what the want in the hopes of getting a peek or some action will be stuck in your head for days. " Let a girl sit in a few nice whips. I guess you feel like I.O.U.1. I guess you want me to show you somethin'." | Rating: ☆☆☆☆ out of 5
Track #08 | My Boo
As you can probably guess, this is yet another ballad. It's a midtempo R&B track, but it has no real memorable qualities. It's another obvious filler track. | Rating: ☆☆ out of 5
Track #09 | Radio
Another filler track, another midtempo R&B / Pop song. " It's just me you and the radio." An unoriginal concept for a song accompanies an unmemorable track. | Rating: ☆☆ out of 5
Track #10 | Still in Love (Feat. Sean Kingston)
A mid-tempo pop track about love gets the album back on track after two lackluster filler songs. Very radio friendly, the chorus will have you wanting to sing along in the car. | Rating: ☆☆☆ out of 5
Track #11 | It's Mine
This pure R&B track is a cute bop about getting what you want when you want it. Not much else to say about this "okay" track. | Rating: ☆☆☆ out of 5
Track #12 | The Way We Were
A happy sounding mid-tempo ballad that feels out of place in the tracklist. Nothing about this is really all that memorable, and it's probably a track that many people skipped over. | Rating: ☆☆ out of 5
Track #13 | Stupid Shit
One of the best on the album, it's obvious why this was chosen to be a single. A good beat, silly lyrics, and a fun chorus put this high above the others on the album. | Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ out of 5
Track #14 | Like Me
Easily the most iconic track in the whole album, this jam is undeniable. Hard hitting lyrics accompanied with a good beat made this what should have been a surefire hit. | Rating: ☆☆☆☆☆ out of 5
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Girlicious had a lot to live up to at the time this album was released, because they were following the footsteps of the Pussycat Dolls who had been smashing for over a year by then. Unfortunately, sales of 'Girlicious' didn't quite exceed expectations here in the US but they had a massive fanbase in Canada.
Only 6 of the 14 tracks received a four star or higher rating from me; less than half of the album. Of course, this was my personal taste speaking and someone may love every single track.
From track 8 to track 12 is where the album truly struggles, in my eyes. Four tracks that scream filler and are probably skipped over after 30 seconds.
My overall rating for the album is ☆☆☆ out of 5 stars. Not terrible, but not amazing. Right in the middle.

I gave you them because I know you bop to like Paris and Heidi so I figured you were into the whole trashy pop scene. That sounds like an insult but I'm into that too. The only thing missing was the whole standout/worst tracks part. I get we can determine that using the star rating system for each track but it would have been nice for you to just include that in the end. I don't necessarily agree with all your reviews but Baby Doll is perfect, I agree. It wasn't bad but at this point in the game, I'm not looking for a specific entry. I look at what we get and whoever is the best gets my 10 of the round and the others are judges based on how they compare to them. I can't see this being used for metacritic but it's a nice user review. Not bad. Hopefully you found some new bops.

+ You were very concise and mentioned every song.
- Most of the time it felt a bit too short and formulaic, there were a lot of the same phrases, "this is a bop", "another filler", "very radio friendly". I would have liked some more depth in those reviews. The rating was also a bit confusing visually, with the empty stars, I expected them to be filled up or something indicating the score.

Quote:
Ray - 9 - Scene I love how each track has its own description and star system and how they alternate from left to right giving it a professional but cool touch to your overall review. I must agree with the comparisons you made with the Pussycat Dolls expectations from them. It's a good review overall

Ashlee Simpson - I Am Me
Lippy
Ashlee Simpson – I Am Me

"I Am Me" is the sophomore album by American singer Ashlee Simpson which was released October 18, 2005 through Geffen Records. The album follows her 2004 debut "Autobiography" and precedes her 2008 third album called "Bittersweet World" which is currently her last studio album.
The siblings of the famous, who want to make it in the same business never have it easy.
Ashlee Simpson decided to go in the track of her sister Jessica Simpson but said that she doesn't want to make a music similar to Jessica's. Whereas Jessica chose to be a doll in the hands of writers, producers and other "starmakers", Ashlee wanted to have everything in her control. She decided to write her own songs and make the album exactly how she wanted.
Just like on her debut album "Autobiography", Ashlee worked exclusively with the talented producer John Shanks. The difference is that "I Am Me" is much better than "Autobiography". With the writing of the lyrics, Ashlee got help by well-established writer Kara DioGuardi. The creative trio Ashlee-Kara-John worked really well and the result is a rebellious pop-rock album full of strong and catchy melodies and sometimes even hilarious lyrics. The album is something you can enjoy if you are a fan of pop-rock stars like Avril Lavigne, Pink, Kelly Clarkson or Hayley Williams from Paramore. "I Am Me" is funny but also serious. It is the album that you could expect from the 21 years old girl who is lucky to work with talented producer. Even though the lyrics, production and melodies on the album are really good, you can tell Ashlee lacks the talent and vocal range many of her peers have. Her voice sounds weak, sometimes lazy and monotonous which can worsen the listening experience.
The highlights for me are acoustically beginning self-empowerment pop-rock ballad "Beautifully Broken", then dark piano ballad "Catch Me When I Fall" in which Ashlee searches for a person that would save her from loneliness, edgier title track "I Am Me" where she declares that she is not going to change for anyone and also a haunting song called "Eyes Wide Open" that is really interesting and could be interpreted in many ways. You should also check the catchy lead single "Boyfriend" which was a moderate hit all over the world. All the songs on the album really fit her voice and are representative of the album. The album could be described as full of fresh guitar strings & shouting vocals packed into sweet melodies. However there are several weak and boring moments on the album, for example the song called "Burning Up" which lacks any kind of substance, but also the second single "L.O.V.E." which is rather annoying than interesting.
Overall this album is above-average. I would recommed you to check it out if you are tired of listening to Pink, Avril or other pop-rock artists, or if you just want to explore the music released before the electro and synthetic music trends, but don't want to go far into history. I would also recomment you to check her first stufio effort "Autobiography".

I just picked this for you because Ashlee was the B-side of Avril back in the day in a way. i liked the intro you gave us. The review was a little bipolar at times because you'd call the lyrics bad but then compliment them at the same time?... You didn't review each track so I have to mark you down for that. Overall, it fell flat compared to others. You sent in pretty early which is admired but only if it's of great quality which this isn't trash, but it isn't the strongest by any means. I applaud the effort you all put into this round though.

FeFe Dobson - Joy
Kavish
About the Album..
 |
"Joy" by Fefe Dobson.- Released: November 22, 2010.
- Genre: Pop, Pop Rock, Pop Punk.
After five years of drama that Fefe Dobson endured during which her album "Sunday Love" was shelved days before its release and she got dropped from her label, she is now back with a vengeance. Being re-signed to Island Records, she recorded her second official album "Joy" which proves why she should not have been dropped in the first place. From a diverse album ranging from pop rock to classic rock, indie rock, synthpop, and other variations, to a varied Fefe with punch, fire, gusto and cheekiness, you are set for a good ride wih the fun, energetic tracks as well as the emotional ballads. The album cover is also symbolic as it pictures Fefe collapsed on stage and it represents all the musical drama she underwent and how she fell in a world that brings her joy. |
About the Tracks..
The first half of the 13 track-set is where the hits are situated. After some seconds of 'Intro' channeling the hits we're about to hear, and within the first 10 minutes of the album, 'Ghost', 'Thanks for Nothing', and 'Stuttering' show off Dobson's genuine energetic approach to making music. The tracks feature screaming vocals and catchy, poppy verses of love and heartbreak. 'Ghost' throws a bit of electro into the rock mix - a recipe which Kelly Clarkson, P!nk and Katy Perry seem to have made a staple of. The track sets the tone for a while dwelling on the theme of infidelity. | |
 | 'Thanks for Nothing' could have well been the second single or a single, based on its catchiness alone. To the follow up midtempo chart burner ‘Stuttering’, she belts out impressively high and quick notes during the chorus with no real effort at all, thus proving that she's on top of the pop market, with some immaculate writing and production that keep her fresh with contemporaries who sprang up while she was away from the game. When she sings songs such as 'You Bitch', which is a very scathing song of typical teenage girl anthem, one can’t help but a feel a bit of joy as one realizes that Fefe is in complete control now. |
The second half of the album starts with 'Didn't See You Coming', and indeed, on first listen, I didn't see it coming. The whole album seem to shift from the pop, pop-rock or pop-punk sound to a whole new direction of classic rock and emotional ballads. This is when you feel that Fefe is more than just her hit singles and that she has more to offer. Even though the stripped down track is pretty flat, it provides an escape from the overwhelming enegetic rock tracks as a wonderful introduction to songs like 'In Your Touch' and 'Set Me Free'. |
'I’m a Lady' is a perfect garage-y/punky song very much in the vein of classic female rock bands. The album's one Rock ballad 'In Your Touch' is magical in its hindsight wisdom and those feelings of resentment and anger we heard earlier on the disc somehow get resolved. She rips herself open on 'Set Me Free', making it clear that the hardships she's endured because of the music business have truly left her scarred; it's these scars, however, that make her ballads so bruising and her spunk and charm so fresh and believable. |
Highlights of the Album..
The epic ballad 'Can't Breathe' is so good and sounds like a Ryan Tedder production. Although it slows down the first half of the album, it doesn't drift far from a pop feel with upbeat drums and synth sounds. Also the fact that Orianthi is featured as the guitar solo on the track makes it even more enjoyable and remarkable. It was a very good choice for the final single of the album and also give an idea of the other side of Dobson as seen in the second half of the album. | |
 | The Avril Lavigne-esque spunky 'I Want You' stands in the spotlight with its catchy 80s style melody pulls you in with vocals reminiscent of classic punk acts. This track shows a more creative side of the singer-songwriter as she steps away from loud guitar and screaming vocals to a fast-paced, quirky, upbeat song. Being a ballad lover, I'm surprised that this song is my favorite on the album instead of the slow songs, because 'I Want You' is that good. There is always a melody that gets remembered after listening to an album for the first time, and this song is it. |
You cannot listen to the album without listening to the album track, 'Joy', which is a fitting closer to this labour of love and drama. Still staying to the oldie sound, she successfully closes the album with this beautiful song. I personally see the whole of the album compressed in this song and it's so catchy that it urges you to press repeat to hear the whole album one more time. |
Underwhelming Track..
As stated earlier, 'Didn't See You Coming' falls rather flat, but it's forgivable since it sets the tone of a new musical direction. 'Watch Me Move', on the other hand, could not really grasp my attention because although slick and spicy, it's very high pitched and noisy, as if she was trying to imitate old rock sounds, which she successfully did on other tracks. But it doesn't work on this childlike repetitive, whiny track. The lyrics, production, and vocals all seem just all over the place but thrown together to make something out of it. I just happened to rate it an underwhelming 3/10 and this is why I consider it the worst track on Joy. |
Overview..
Simply put, 'Joy' is a catchy set of anthems dedicated to living life to its fullest. Fefe’s vocal performance in the album is stunning, powerful, emotional, fun, and magnetizing. You can hear Fefe's enthusiasm and joie de vivre on every track, and it's infectious. The sheer naked notes she hits with her aggressive assertion is tempting. However, the strength comes in the non-singles, which slide farther from radio fodder and into a greasier, grittier set that is often too absent in pop music these days. Joy in the end may not be such a cheerful album as we expected, but it stands to be an epic comeback for a genuinely talented pop artist who was shafted by the industry that would welcome her back with open arms, and that is definitely a joyful story.

This was the most random choice ever. I just thought you are the most optimistic contestant here so you would listen to barney tunes if I asked and smile about it. I don't think it was that long, I mean sure it could have been condensed and still gotten the same score but I really did enjoy it. I'm glad you liked the album as I have been a fan of FeFe for awhile. You came off professionally and your format skills would make even a crap entry look okay. The only part that confused me is that you seemed so positive about the album then gave it an odd score. Other than that, great job.

- It was too long. If a review goes into detail like this, I think it loses the reader at some point because it's just too much. You wanna give the reader a general impression of the songs to create suspense and make them want to listen to it; you don't want them to be satisfied with reading the review and feeling like they don't even need to listen to the album anymore because the review already told them everything about it, if you know what I mean. I also don't quite understand your final score after you praised the album so much.

The judges can stay pressed.
I didn't lie when I said Successica Legendson's album is flawless.
I mean... 3x Platinum in the U.S.
Edit: I also feel like I was graded too harshly.
Did y'all give me such low scores because I forgot to include my name?
It's not fair.

Congrats on the win Nick.
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed with my scores, except from Ray. I put a lot of time and effort into this challenge. I went into it with an open mind and I'm sorry if some of your favorites got placed in the "avoid" section but that was just my honest opinion. I'm not going to lie.

I wouldn't deny that you put effort into your entry, and I did not subtract points for that. You took this challenge seriously and I liked that. Yet, like I said in my comment, I felt like you almost completely disregarded the album only because you thought the lyrics were poor, and I don't think the worst songs trinity was bad because two of those are my favorites because they universally tend to be seen as (some of) the best songs on the album (it's perfectly fine if you didn't like those songs or they bored you, but doesn't automatically make them bad). But yeah, my biggest problems were how you were so condescending about Taylor's lyrics, didn't even consider her age and barely talked about the music.
