ohmygod i love that smiley.
I never would have guessed that Avatar would have become the biggest grossing film of all time (or will become). I was thinking about tickets earlier, people have got to remember with easy access to pirate dvd's, internet, *******s, etc, there won't be as many people going to see a film compared to 10/12 years ago when Titanic was around, people would rather download things and save their money, or not go due to the reviews online, which would ultimately effect ticket sales; chances are, if it wasn't for those variables, Avatar would be a lot closer to selling the same amount of tickets as Cameron's Titanic.

Those figures were updated yesterday though. I'm sure once it's updated today, it will be bigger than Titanic ![:)](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/smile.gif)

As far as making money, I can't disagree with that at all. I'm more interested in the ticket selling side of things personally. With inflation, cost of seeing something in 3-D etc, not as many people can go to the movies to see Avatar, but it will still make more than Titanic - it will be the biggest grossing movie, but for so many different reasons. The real test for Avatar is if it can sell as many tickets as Titanic, if it does that, then hats off to Cameron!

Yeah, I already argued this one. People are making excuses. We are talking highest grossing film, not highest ticket film.
It is the highest grossing film. People are willing to spend 5 or more bucks just to see it in 3D, when they could easily save that money to see it in 2D. It was shown in 2D in every theater that I recall?
People are just trying to find ways to say it isn't the #1 movie of all time. With Titanic they needed MORE tickets to make MORE money because people could only see it in 2D equaling a lower price. With Avatar, LESS tickets are being sold because tickets are MORE money to see it in 3D. No one is forcing these adults to see it in 3D. If they are so poor, they could have seen it in 2D resulting in less income
Anyways, I don't want to be late for my own party....It is my birthday after all. [Avatar] That made me cry at the end! Jake Sulley ![love](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v232/korn0818/ATRLSmilies/2f546ae2.gif)

A lot of people are bitter about the movie because their favourite films aren't #1, not to mention people enjoy going against the grain and hating something for the sake of hating. Like I said earlier, the increase in technology is why less and less people are going to the cinemas. Not to mention, just because it's the highest grossing movie, it doesn't mean it's the best movie, people need to wire that into their brains before bashing something because it made a lot of cash.
And happy birthday~!

Hahaha, yeah just cause you have the #1 album of the year, doesn't mean it's a good quality album. Like Lady Gaga...blahhhhh.
I've heard a million underated albums that sold nothing and were masterpieces compared to Lady Gaga's overatedness. Good point. Just cause Titanic and Avatar is #1 doesn't mean it's amazing, but usually in movie cases, it's different. People usually recommend a movie if it's good. People wouldn't invest into seeing a movie if it was like enjoying an album.
Plus the fact that it's aimed at a variety of different groups. The top ten movies of all time, are pretty good, can't deny that. They don't suck that's for sure.

No comment on the Lady GaGa thing, haha, although I can see where you're coming from.
I think hype has a lot to do with people going to see Titanic in the past and Avatar now, both movies where beautiful in terms of the special effects, the narratives where pretty 'eh' but that comes down to personal opinion. People have been talking about Avatar a lot, it's natural to be curious, so people go to see it because they like checking out what all the fuss it. Some liked the film, some didn't, everyone likes different genre's, I'm into old school mafia movie's and low budget horrors myself but I still managed three hours on the worst cinema seat ever. I'd not rank Avatar in the top 10 of all time - even the fan boys/girls on IMDB didn't do that but it was great to say the least. Avatar was just an incredibly marketable film and left your movie taste-buds wanting more, I think people just need to remember making the most money doesn't equate to it being the best, you've got to be really naive to look at it that way. I also think it's hilarious people are calling the film bad without even watching it, the amount of money the film has made is insane, if it made that much, it's obviously done something right; whether it be the storyline, marketing, or special effects.

Avatar is now my favourite movie of all time, lol. It's definetely up there. I haven't been touched emotionally and physically by a film before. I've never really had a #1 movie before Avatar because all movies are the same imo. Same techniques used over and over. Avatar really brought it up there and it made it stick out. That's why it's now my favourite movie of all time.

It's a film I could watch over and over again without a doubt. I think it's amazing how a recent film can actually become someone's favourite over the amount of classics out there, if it can become a regular film-watcher's favourite, then it's ticked a lot of boxes which shows that it isn't just a run off the old mill graphic'd up movie which was successful for one thing. It has nothing on my favourites, but to each their own.

I kinda agree with my history teacher when he said Avatar is a ultra-modern Pocahontas. It is kinda thesame plot. ![shutup](images/smilies/shutup.gif) Still amazing tho. ![:)](http://www.atrl.net/forums/images/smilies/images/smilies/smile.gif)
