Literally, go to work, school, lunch, anywhere you can, and ask "do you care for Lady Gaga anymore/would you buy her music?" and I guarantee you nearly everyone will say "no." Don't just ask your little stan friends on twitter.
She had huge success with Edge Of Glory because it was radio friendly, it was safe. BTW was in no means a "flop" album, but in terms of Gaga, it will most likely go down in her career as her worst move. It was too "avante garde", as most people will put it.
Also, you REALLY have to factor in stan purchases. Gaga has, and most likely will always have, one of the biggest stanbases ever. (As perfectly illustrated on ATRL as well). These stans can guarantee her huge success and sales.
I'm going to jump the arrow and state the obvious in that all of her 26(?) Million twitter followers, not all of them are monsters. However, I can guarantee you that a good 2-5 (estimate) million of them are fans of hers/stans of hers. This amount of people, a fanbase this big, can guarantee you a successful debut number (i.e BTW), but after that debut, they cant carry you on the second week album sales, or the second week single (i.e. her 84.27% drop after BTW debuted, which set the record at that time) Gaga has the stanbase to give her PHENOMINAL 1st week numbers, but after that, it is the GP that will carry the rest of the sales.
I'm not denying that Gaga is talented. I am not denying that she is successful. I think she's a great person, with a great message, and great music. (though some of her stans prevent me from truly enjoying it). However, the point stands that the GP was more here for Ke$ha in the "Animal" era than they were for Gaga in the "BTW" era. Since Ke$ha does not have a stanbase nearly a 10th the size of Gaga's, it's only fair to assume that the GP were buying her albums.
With that said, If Gaga pulls another BTW, Ke$ha will have a more successful era (Single wise and album wise.) If Gaga pulls a "Fame" era, both of them will be tough competition for each other, although Gaga will most likely get the Nominations at the Grammies. If Bad Romance can be kicked by Tik Tok, which was Gaga's magnum opus of the "Fame Monster" era, and Ke$ha being a debut artist, it will be very interesting to see how they fare against each other their next eras.

First of all, the claim that everyone would say they would not buy her music or do not care for her is rather absurd. I DO ask everyone I know that question at times, and almost every female or gay I ask say that they would buy her music, they just didn't like BTW (obviously I'm not including straight males as they more often than not do not like her).
Second of all, the song BTW remained #1 for six weeks - since you say her fanbase alone couldn't carry that, then the GP must have done it.
Why are we still comparing a 2010 debut era to a 2011 third era? It does not make sense. BTW as a whole was more successful than the Animal era, and the only reason BTW is seen as "disappointing" or "underperforming" is that TF(M) was about 10 times as successful as anyone else's debut eras since Britney Spears, and much more successful than any other era at the time.
I also don't think it's fair to say that if Gaga does a "Fame" era they'd be in tough competition. I don't mean to insult Ke$ha, but it's crazy to imply that she's ever been even close to as big as Gaga was during TF(M). If Gaga does another Fame-like era the only person posing any threat would be Adele. If Gaga did another BTW, she'd be an idiot, and she's not an idiot. If she does what is logical to expect, and that is an era somwhere between TF(M) and BTW, she'll still not be in competition with Ke$ha.
It really confuses me how people say they're going to be in competition. With Ke$ha's last lead single, it debuted with 280k and then never reached the top 2 again, while Gaga's debuted with 448k in just three days, jumped to 509k, and even after the hype had died it was #1 still in its 6th week. You know Gaga will have hype for her lead single no matter what she does to try to avoid that. I don't understand when some people, even some in my own fanbase, say that "if they debuted the same week Ke$ha could be a threat", when Gaga would clearly be far ahead for at least a few weeks, and even after if the song is good and accepted by the GP.
Ke$ha is simply not yet at the same level and cannot challenge Gaga in success. If Gaga continues to decline it might happen, but as it's looking so far she's gotten her **** together and is going to cut the weird crap (as in the weird-even-for-Gaga massive moles and ugly ass black and white bobs and slime everywhere), and that makes me think her next era will be a bit bigger than BTW.
