I was registering in a new high school (prominently latino neighborhood and im myself am latina) and this Black girl with her mom and sister are sitting on the table where me and my mom are and shes on the phone with someone I guess talking about registering? and her sister goes "Dont say your social (SSI Number) theres a bunch of mexicans here"

I just laughed it off really, it made me mad lol but its such an oxymoron thing for her to had said considering the school is basically in Barrio Logan but yah that was probably one of my main "racism" stories

Do you want me to bring back that article (written by someone who actually knows what they're talking about) that specifically states how racism led to the Irish being viewed as brutish subhumans, just like blacks were?

Or how about the list about how black people and Irish experienced the exact same situation, so you can act like they're somehow different?

I'm white, and I have never faced racism and never will (although I will face sexism). The system is in my favor, and there's nothing I can do about it. Things are getting better and all (I never thought I'd live to see the day where a black president was elected) but it'll be a while. I have first hand seen how racist white people can be (my parents, friends, etc.) and it's not purposely done, it's just that people have yet to learn to see humans and not skin color. I've been judged (by blacks AND whites) for being friends with blacks, it's just a mess. Society is unfair.

I honestly blame the internet and the emergence of pseudo-activism. It's so easy to just throw around the phrase "check your privilege" and whine than actually understand these things and do something. Now we have a bunch of half-assed activism attempts by 20-somethings who have taken an Africana Studies class or two that are spewing their own special brand of hate. The spread of awareness is VERY useful and great things have come about because of it. People are just taking it too far and making a mockery of it.

Second...sure they took crappy jobs but they were in no way slaves.

The only two definitions for racism presented in this thread have been "discrimination based on race" (which would clearly apply to all white people) and "discrimination from a race which is viewed as on top" (ie it's not racism against whites because the whites are in charge), but, since the British made the Irish a separate race and had power over them, it's still racism.

Either way, they have had racism perpetrated against them.

1) Lots of them were taken as slaves to America and the Caribbean
2) Many of them were slaves before they took those jobs. And look up "wage slavery", FYI.
3) Not Jim Crow laws, but they were subjected to discrimination and hate crimes by the KKK and political parties such as the Know-Nothing party. Don't forgot the bombings and murders committed by the British, while you're at it.
