He didn't simply say "gays". It's about context. When you refer to a group of people as "the gays" in a derogatory manner it is just as much of a slur as something like "the japs".

I didn't say he didn't mean because he did, but he also said it to stir the pot. Everyone else who commented managed to convey their message without getting a rise are you different?

What is the difference REALLY? It's just context and perception... People are just more touchy when it comes to race because it's been drilled into our brains over the years that it's bad to be racist, too bad people as a whole are so much more lenient when it comes to gay hate. And too bad that your average person can't figure on their own that hate is hate and there's no difference.
