Title opened better than DW&H too. Which album sold more in the end? mkay
I notice that it's mainly Gaga fans that are fuming @ Bruno. Why is this? Is it bc he would have been the only big mainstream/relevant artist that she would have done better than in one area temporarily?

Sales went down since last year
and he'd still do well when the era is done

The irony at you saying this to a Rih fan.
Title was released almost 2 years ago and had AATB behind it. I don't get the comparison when she has 2nd album released this year who tanked.
Bruno and Rih are all based on longevity, the gp is here for them. They won't have big debuts as some of their peers but they end up outselling them most of them. Like, deal with it.
Oh and 200k in 2016 is not as doing barely 200k in 2010/2011.
Can't wait for the 2nd week drop. Will it be as good as his peers?

What you are talking about? people who were attacking Rihanna were pressed souls because we Know Rihanna isn't the kind of artist to open big even with all the #1s she has achieved before releasing Talk That Talk which was her 6th album. Now we said it from the beginning that bruno is the kind of artist who depends on GP more than dedicated fans to buy his albums just like Pink for another example.

Y'all talking about overall/further weeks, when this is about his first week. I never said he'd do bad overall, I actually think he'll do good overall.
However, as said yesterday:

That's not the point.
#1 hit after #1 hit, two multi-platinum albums, two SuperBowls, biggest Song of the Decade just last year, a current hit, and being an A-list name yet he still doesn't have a fanbase that rushes to buy his album when it's out more than 5 Seconds of Summer, Future, and Zayn.
You'd think after all these years he wouldn't have to rely on releasing 5 singles and having them all rotated non-stop to do well overall... and you know, had an actual fanbase ready to buy his stuff.
It's very messy. Even Meghan Trainor did 200k+ first week, off two hits, so what does that say about the mark he's left after all these years doing barely 150k?
While first weeks numbers aren't everything, they're representative of how big your fanbase is and how much momentum your return has. Looking at his first week, well...
|
An A-list star can do good first week numbers AND do good overall.
Beyonce, Drake, Taylor, Adele, etc do good first week AND overall.
Bruno after all these years... still has well, basic first weeks. He's an established A-list act, yet he still needs 5 singles spinned non-stop on radio and a year of promotion to do well in the long-run because he hasn't developed a fanbase.
That is why I'm laughing at his first week. He should be able to have a nice first week -- even The Weeknd is getting one after less than two years of success, and also do well overall.

This under performance is definitely due to lackluster material (sans VOTF)
But I'm still here for talent, which Bruno has so maybe next time, he'll be able to pull impressive numbers. Good luck.

Can't wait to see Weeknd's number.

Honestly, no one cares.
Good first week, hit after hit, bigger sales overall > bigger debut weeks, eras lasting a month.

Bruno Mars’ projection, meanwhile, increases considerably from our one-day estimates, with further growth possible following his fiery performance at this weekend’s American Music Awards.

Um. I can read without you sizing it up. Thank you?! We apparently interpret those words differently. That's fine.
But bottom line I said the number could still grow, you said the number could still grow, HDD said the number could still grow. Not sure what your point is.

You don't care, yet you were the one who came running bringing up my posts ready to discuss when the numbers were changed. Yeah, sure.
This thread is about first week, but you're only defense towards his first week is "wait for OVERALL, but OVERALL!!!" shows these are indeed bad first week numbers.
Having a good first week, and a good overall number = strong fanbase
Having a bad first week, and needing months + 5 singles to do well overall = not strong fanbase; needs lots of promotion, hits, and exposure to do well.
It's not hard to understand

The fact is HITS unerestimated Unorthodox Jukebox by ~50k.
Years had passed but their Bruno sales prediction is off again.
They went from 125k -140k to 200k after several days. They should stop trying.

At all the people having a go at HDD- stop. Do you know how hard it is to predict something
At least it gives us some indication as to whether to start bragging or not. Most of the time it has been fairly accurate
