NG's Top 30 Joints Of 2008....Presents : Number 20 & 19
20. Danity Kane - Damaged
Released: January 29, 2008.
From the Album : Welcome to the Dollhouse 2007:Incubus - Dig 2006:Johnny Cash - God's Gonna Cut You Down 2005:Rihanna - Pon De Replay 2004:Nas - Thief's Theme
Pop perfection. Damaged is not just a big hit and a radio friendly single, but it has sets some new ground for all the girl groups that are trying to break out. The song is addictive with hooks that would not leave your head. I mean I'm sure everyone at some point this year is humming, "Do! Do you?! got a first aid kit handy?!" It's pretty disappointing to hear Diddy has dismissed Aubrey and D Woods out of the group. Why, Diddy, why would you do something like that to the only artist that actually help your record sell albums? Instead of supporting Cassie and her flop tuna, Official Girl, why not help promote this album and release a hot new single. It's a shame that Danity Kane is becoming a trio now. Hopefully, something will kick in Diddy's sense and bring them all back for a new hot project soon.
19. The Kills - Cheap and Cheerful
Released: March 10, 2008.
From the Album : Midnight Boom 2007:Klaxons - Golden Skans 2006:Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars 2005:Mario - How Could You 2004:Ciara Feat. Petey Pablo - Goodies
I heard this track through Digitalism Micromixed and my curiosity leads to download. I must say, I am very impressed with Cheap and Cheerful. Opening with a throat-clearing cough and a hip-shaking lo-fi drum-loop, Cheap And Cheerful sees the return of Atlantic-spanning bo-ho duo The Kills. The track is based on the electro and hip-hop sounds of the late seventies reminding me of a Neptunes production with the drum beats. The sound of The Kills reminds me of Garbage meets the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Over the top of the sparse yet groovy beats and some synth bass help kick this song off from a great beginning to the big finish. The clip for this track is cheap just as its title have mentioned, but it's cheap and creative. Cheap and Cheerful is fun, catchy, and dancefloor friendly material with lyrics like, "I want you to be crazy cause you're boring baby when you're straight!", you can't beat that!
Look out for my top 30 albums to hit this thread pretty soon.
