06. Rihanna Feat. Jay-Z - Umbrella
Released: March 29, 2007.
From the Album : Good Girl Gone Bad
- I will always remember that in 2007 everyone was singing "You can stand under my umbrella ella ella ey ey ey". What a mega-smash hit this song has become as well as breaking Rihanna out of the ordinary R&B songstress pack. With witty lyrics written by The Dream who responsible for J. Holiday's Bed, Rihanna sung "When the war has took it's part..When the world has dealt its cards. If the hand is hard, together we'll mend your heart." The Barbados singer was no longer doing the simple Pon de Replay dance; instead she managed to control the charts and her audiences. This Grammy's Record of the Year nominee is my summer anthem for 2007, you just can't deny that you have not heard "Umbrella" unless you've been living under the rock.
Just to prove how huge these two songs are, I've got a cover for you!
Cover Time: Scott Simons - Umbrella
05. Peter Bjorn and John - Young Folks

- Whoever is hating on this song needs to stop because "Young Folks" is beyond awesome. Starting from the beginning with the mesmerizing whistle to Victoria's vocal singing along the Young Folk's chorus, "And we don't care about the young folks talkin' 'bout the young style, and we don't care about the old folks talkin' 'bout the old style too", this track always light up a smile on my face. You can't help it, but tap your foot and just bop your head to the duple tempo behind the background. "Young Folks" represents the pinnacle of a summer season’s release schedule, as comfortable on a Radio 1 breakfast show not to mention the track is incredibly catchy. Good tune indeed.
