I realize that, by now, the "AHS" franchise is pretty much critic-proof. You're either drawn to its push-the-envelope, slasher **** fetishes, or you're turned off by them. There simply is no in-between, so it's useless to go off on a verbal rampage.
In the opening moments, when two young naive Swedish tourists are welcomed to the Cortez by a grumpy Kathy Bates, I was blown away by the gorgeous art-deco sets that Murphy's art department whipped up. The hotel, which was built in 1930, according to the show's lore, is definitely a character unto itself.
As for Gaga, it's too early to tell. We don't meet her character until deep into the opener and, of course, "AHS" goes out of its way to present her in a visually stunning manner. You can't take your eyes off her.
But she's given only a few clipped lines to utter. Otherwise, Gaga mainly struts and preens and delivers a lot of vacant stares (...) It may not be long before fans are pining for the return of Jessica Lange.
So once again, I'm confronted with an "AHS" season that appears to be more gross than engrossing. Alas, I may not be able to check out of the Hotel Cortez, but at least I can change the channel.
the last two seasons were so bad, i'm giving my last chance to this show
The biggest kii is that those seaons are the ones with the most postive reception from the critics. I think in the end its what the fans think that's most important.
I knew something was fishy when it was announced there was an embargo. Whatever, I'm still watching, it's not like AHS has ever been some acclaimed masterpiece.
