I don't buy this idea that because Teenage Dream had longevity then Prism will have it too Prism has only like a couple #1 singles left, even if they re-release it and do all their tactics I still don't see it going double platinum so let's just remember they are two different eras..

I see what you're getting at I agree that the album might not be as successful as TD but I'm still going to wait and see if she can scan at least 1 million copies before year's end before I even think to deem this an under performance. As for Katy releasing the "same song single after single," is that not her thing? She seems to know what her fans want to hear and it works out for her in the end bc that's the music she wants to make.

How is a 500k/600k difference "barely eclipsed"? By the same nonsensical logic Gaga's album did pathetic numbers because her lead single opened in its first two weeks with huge numbers. And yes, Teenage Dream did last a lot longer, but if we look closely, Katy Perry didn't do that much promo during 2011.

It's hard to sell a 2 years old album, not matter how much promo/singles she has.

Plus she can afford 2 years eras because she can have 6 successful consecutive singles, something the other girls can't. That's why her label puts so much effort on her eras. She gives results.

Why do people in here assume that huge promo should result in huge first week sales?Fans already know everything about album,so basically all the promo is directed to the GP and when a casual listener sees "PRISM coming October 22" they won't think "OMG Katy Perry's new album is coming October 22,I MUST buy it on the same they!",they will be like:"Oh,Katy Perry's album is coming October 22,maybe I will buy it one day if I like all singles that she realeses."
Capitol and Katy obviously want this to have great longetivity instead of it opening hugely and having horrible longetivity and that is very clever of them.

The sales may be considered underwhelming to some but first week sales aren't important, at least to me anyway. One album could sell more than the other first week but that does not guarantee that it'll outsell it in the long run
