Pop Mariah though. I sometimes wish she'd never truly transitioned so that we'd have more music like Daydream instead of having one magnum opus, Butterfly, and then a slew of mediocre albums. This transitional period was so unique and precious to me.

"The Roof" was one of the first Mariah songs that I fell in love with and hearing that was probably one of the moments that made me a stan.

The Roof and Breakdown are really two of her greatest songs ever. Everything on Butterfly was written, arranged, and sung perfectly.

I don't even know what to say about Butterfly... Like, where do I begin??

OK, let's start with The Roof, which is probably in my top 5 of all time favorite songs, maybe even top 3

Then, let's just talk about her FLAWLESS image and how Butterfly was her only era to spawn only flawless visuals. No other Mariah era gave us so many amazing videos Honey in particular is one of the best videos of all time tbh

And then My All and the remixes are just perfect

And of course we have to post this. I really think Butterfly is her greatest performance of all time.


You can start to hear the strain in her voice and it's like Mariah was squeezing out every last bit of her vocal purity for this one last show. All the colors and textures in those runs! 3:19 alone >>> just about every girl out there.

I have mixed feelings about Butterfly. It is hands down one of her best albums. Less filler than her previous records, But it's hard to not notice her voice beginning to wain on the album. I don't think overuse is as much to blame as people think. i think Mariah around this time had stopped seeing a vocal coach, and she begin working a much more grueling schedule resulting in less sleep, and the stress of the divorce, and media scrutiny on her new image began taking a toll on her.

Looking back, her change in image wasn't as bad as they made it seem compared to how she's dressed since 2005 to now, not that she dresses bad at all.

And she was 27-28 nearing her 30's it's only natural she wanted to let herself free.

Lastly, the Album slayed me my fave songs :babydoll, fourth of july, breakdown, butterfly.

She used the most acrobatics on this album vocally because this album has some of her most difficult songs to sing
