The difference between Katy and Rihanna is that Katy works with these people because she knows with them she can get results. Rihanna on the other hand mixes it up because she doesn't have to work with these people, they do all the work for her.

Not only that but "I Kissed A Girl and I LIked It" it's one of the most iconic most talked about lines from any song in the past decade. I hear it in almost every show. I hear it from celebrities, I hear it in movies, interviews ect.) Now that's IMPACT. The only homage and anyone remembering Umbrella in the past few years is that iconic fanmade Umbrella video and Britney Spears attacking the paparazzi with one. Let's not even talk about Firework...

but that's just my opinion even though it can be classified as facts. Whatever though, I guess we should go straight to the point of the thread and I honestly think that Katy will outlast Rihanna. Rihanna is a hit and miss musically. She has the big hit and the rest of her songs either flop or underperform. She's a fashion icon and a great social media troll so she'll always be talked about but a lot of my friends who don't spend their time on music boards see Rihanna as that chick who makes radio hits and nothing else (and yes I know the same thing can be said about Katy) but I feel like Katy puts herself out there more and actually talks about her work and shows passion and commitment in what she does and that will take her even further in her career and which is why people relate to her because she's not focused on controversy.

Does anyone comprehend the artistic risk Katy took in releasing an album of (basically) ballads? There's not one stand alone "club" hit. In a world dominated by dance and EDM that's risk my friends.

Rihanna is a manufactured Pop star. She doesn't write her own music or create her own albums. She does what she's told when she's told and for the most part of it, it works. However the world is filled with examples of how young pop stars temporarily take over the world (like Rihanna has done) True longevity comes artistic integrity.

Katy writes her own music, she creates her own albums and she does that from personal experiences in her life. People will always connect more with something that's real and personal over something someone is told to sing about.

On top of that, Katy hasn't peaked early. She's gaining trajectory. Her career is only increasing and she's growing as an artist.

That's what I've been saying. The fact that Katy has had 3 successful eras in a row,says it all. If she keeps going this way then there's no denying that Katy will have a bigger career than Rih which imo based on the amount of years short that Katy has on Rih, she's accomplished just about the same if not as much if you're not including collabs which is thanks to the main artist.
