I find these kind of statements to be incredibly obnoxious. It is one thing to bring attention to the violent mistreatment of Muslims, Syrian refugees, and Pakistanis. But to undermine another movement just to make your own agenda appear to be more important or urgent is annoying and most of all ignorant.
Like, what the hell is she even implying? That black activism by black artists is old news? Are the injustices plaguing communities that both Bey and Kenderick have strong personal ties to all of sudden not so bad because the media is "allowing" them to talk about it? Is it not provocative enough for her? Of course their work would address black issues in America, they are black Americans
That doesn't make their work on the subject any less profound.
If what she is trying to imply is that minorities should support each other then that's perfectly fine. But, the whole "...more interesting question" bit rubbed me the wrong way and I am honestly disappointed in MIA. She should know better.
