People are getting hung up on the word "prostitute", and not seeing the point of the letter.
The way I understood it was that she's saying the music industry is using her like a prostitute, and will use & abuse her until they've sucked every last hit out of her that they can get. Sinead said the same thing happened to her, and look at where she's at now. She could have worded it differently, but her intentions appear to be ones of genuine concern.

Let me rephrase that.
Suicidal people, in most cases, are vulnerable. When they ask for help, they do it anonymously, as you stated, via hotline or medical centers by approach, or by sending "indirect" signals to surroundings that they are in need of help, like obvious symptoms of depression or whatnot.
What Sineard basically asked for was meds, and she could have easily searched for medical centers / treatments on the web, anonymously, without going on Twitter and announcing it to the whole world. She wants people to pity her, and apparently she has more of a substance abuse than of mental one, and that was probably a withdrawal effect.
I could be wrong, I'm just saying. Miley knows something we don't. This is the first time she went off on a celeb after it all went down.

dude i've been suicidal before and you have no idea what you're talking about
when i was suicidal i confided in a close friend because just because you're extremely sad doesn't mean you suddenly don't trust your close friends/family/whoever you vent to
and i had a twitter account where i would talk about it too, one that had followers, and when i did it wasn't for attention, it was because i needed help
and so does sinead, like that's really obvious if you actually read her tweets???

Such a heartless thing to say.

what??? this post is just stupid.
first of all she didn't say anything about her family. maybe her family is involved but there's a 99% chance she was talking about record company executives and people like that that are known to manipulate young artists for their own personal gain. nobody ever established it was her family, that was an assumption you made and you can't insult people based on an assumption.
who cares what fanbase they are??? if you're wrong you're wrong, no matter who you are. get over it and realize that miley isn't perfect.
and maybe i would get offended but i sure as hell wouldn't laugh at her mental breakdown. i don't care how insulted you are, that's a horrible thing that should never be done by anyone.

That may have been her intention. But anyone with a smidgen of social sense would've realized that using the prostitute analogy would reasonably be found offensive. Especially if the letter was made public and written by someone with whom you don't have a close relationship.

No matter how the letter was intended, it does not make it right for her to insult people with mental illnesses. If the letter were aggressive in any manner, it's because of Miley's character, something she can control. Miley on the other hand, just insulted and actively made fun of not one, but two people with mental illnesses, something neither wanted or has control over. Seriously, take off the stan glasses and stop defending her classlessness.

As far as I could tell the letter was supposed to be powerful. Language like that would usually prompt a person to analyse their behavior but I guess it's miley so...

I don't know if you're addressing me, but I've already said many times that what Miley did wasn't okay. My issue is that the level of outrage that is being directed toward her is excessive given the circumstances.

I don't think your second sentence is true. If someone feels insulted, they're not going to make changes. They're going to become defensive. And may strike back (just like Miley did).

Rihanna's always dragging the poor people, so it's hypocritical for a Rihanna fan to even say anything on this matter and drag Miley for it while Rihanna has done the same and worse. Miley could have taken it a different way and assumed she was talking about her family. She's had almost the complete same team since she was 12 years old. Miley has made all these decisions herself. It isn't the record company deciding her decisions. I've heard from people who have contacts with labels and everything and they all say that this is what Miley wants to do. Her label has wanted her to calm down, but she doesn't want to. It's HER decisions and Sinead does not get that.

Wait, I thought those were fake tweets Miley made up to be mean. Sinead actually tweeted all of that?

What I don't understand is how Sinead can miss how obvious it is that this is all Miley's decision. The VMA's for example - does she really think her label WANTED her to do that? It's common sense. Miley is just acting her age , let her grow out of it and let her do what she wants. I hate how people preach about being well-behaved and dull; practically no personality. The girl does what she wants, and she seems to be enjoying it. Let her live her life. The only people who should be concerned are her family and (extremely close) friends, not a one-hit wonder.

EXACTLY. Miley's living the childhood she never got to have and people don't understand that. She's making all these decisions, not her label. Miley fans have been following her. Even this whole new image she has created for herself. She even made all this new music before joining a new label because she wanted to have full creative control.

Well yeh, but miley became defensive as well as offensive and there is no excuse for that.

I don't think Rihanna has ever dragged someone who gave her sincere advice before...

Are people making a bigger deal about Miley making fun of her mental illness or the fact that she fired back to someone who gave her "sincere advice"(while constantly using curse words in the letter)?

Enough with this "sincere, genuine, caring, nice advice" argument. Sinead's letter is extremely attention-seeking. No matter what excuse she has, if she cared about Miley she would've privately contacted her. There's no reason to put her opinion on full blast in the media. The letter itself was also extremely judgmental, to the point of obnoxious. And the fact that people think she "spilled tea!!!!!" is just.

This makes me wonder how she REALLY feels about Britney. Britney wouldn't say anything but if she dragged that VMA performance you know sh*t would hit the fan.
