Oshawott is a flop of a Pokemon and you have Ash to blame for that. The only thing that might have any iconic-status is Razor Shell - and even that's pushing it.

Razor Shell was made 'famous' by Oshawott and what Oshawott does with it in the anime, if Shellder/Cloyster were to have used that move earlier, Oshawott's attack would be borderline irrelevant. To the second point - The Squirtle Squad is one of the most rememberable things about Squirtle, and even the anime.

It's kind of the same thing with Squirtle and him becoming the first water start ever. If he wasn't the first water starter and let's say it was Piplup instead, Piplup would be as iconic as Squirtle The Squirtle Squad would've been forgotten too

Oh, and Sunflora is pretty basic too. I tried playing Pokemon Black 2 from start to finish with him but I ended up releasing his basic ass
