I think, yet again, Republicans will focus on entirely the wrong thing once Hillary is elected: any Republican could have beaten Hillary except Trump. This is a lie. It'd be much closer but Hillary has the ever growing support of many minorities and has the backing of the Obama coalition. She has the support of many millennials despite the Bernie fiasco according to polls. They aren't looking WITHIN to see what is wrong - they are going to focus on asinine social conservatism, pander hard to the religious right, and lose any moderates left in the House and Senate after this election.

The problem isn't Trump - he just helps things. The problem is othering African Americans, Hispanics and Latinos, LGBT individuals, focusing on abortion, worshiping religion as the country grows even more atheist and agnostic. They are going to have to work overtime to even get the a fraction of the support they once had with Hispanics - the fastest growing population in the United States. They've lost Millennials for good. Hillary has her own road of battle scars she'll have to recover from but it's nothing near compared to the ditch the Republicans threw themselves into.

Yeah, I think this race would be close no matter what. The country is polarized.
BUT working class Americans are upset at the way things are, especially in the rust belt. Even though trade wouldn't have come up as an issue in this election without Bernie or Trump, I do feel most of those voters would have voted republican for a change of direction, despite the fact it would be against their best interest.
So it would have been close but I don't think Hillary would have won in the end. The Comey decision really hurt her. But I also don't know if Wikileaks would have interfered in this election as republicans aren't fans of Putin anymore than Clinton is. So it's hard to tell but it would not have been a landslide victory for republicans. It would have been another 2004 situation probably.
