Like as soon as they win white women and college educated whites back (and we know that's going to happen) by a large enough margin they're at the very least competitive again.

If they can steal some of the minority vote (probably Latino), then the game will get real tight.

The Trump voters will very well get back in line when they have to. If it means taking down Clinton you know damn well they'll vote.

Right, the biggest obstable is getting whoever candidate past. If a popular non-establishment candidate doesn't show up, then they have no choice but to push the main dudes (Cruz, Pence, Rubio, Bush, etc.)

And I doubt Trump would be running again, he's damaged goods.

Its possible, but the problem with the GOP field this time (and its possible next time, as well) is that there are quite a few people who were relatively moderate candidates. Kasich and Jeb! were absolutely standing on the moderate platform. Rubio was to the right of them, but still not as extreme as Cruz. Then of course earlier on you had Christie. There wasn't really the chance for any of them to build up any momentum and position themselves as the moderate. First the plan was Jeb, then it was Rubio, then it eventually became Kasich as he was the last man standing. All that divided support meant that supporters couldn't really rally behind anyone from an early point.

For 2020, the GOP would be best trying to ensure that only one "moderate" candidate stands. If not, the exact same thing will happen. It'll largely depend if Clinton has a good first term. If she does, then the likes of Paul Ryan and Rubio might sit out knowing that a good first term and the incumbency makes it unlikely for them. If she has a horrific first term, they'll all jump in and fight for it. That makes it easier for the "Trump" candidate like this time.

Trump really only got through initially because of how split the vote was in the initial stages.

The GOP will learn their lesson. If not... then Clinton gets a second term. But they'd hate that.

Like Trump fans are already wanting to end the political career of Paul Ryan. They despise John McCain. The people in most danger of losing House and Senate seats are the most moderate Republicans. We'll have an even crazier GOP electorate.

I mean Clinton has been thrown a lifeline here via Trump. She gets a term in the White House to impress the public and prove why she deserves to be there.

But we're kidding ourselves if we don't think most people don't really want her there.

If she has an average-ish term in office and goes up against a sane, scandal-free Republican it's going to be an incredibly difficult battle for her. Especially when the political tide is definitely going out for the Democrats considering this will be their third Presidential term.

Actually is there any real... substance to the "not winning more than 3 Dem/Rep terms"? Like it's rare sure but like is that all there is to it? It just feel like saying "Ohio voted for every president in modern time"; Ohio may not be exactly all that required to win as long as other factors are in Hillary favors (which they were when Ohio was still in Trump's column.)

1. The GOP would have to pivot drastically to attract white women and college educated whites while also not losing its core racist, xenophobic base. It cannot afford to lose either.

2. Catering to the two sides of the GOP will be practically impossible now that the core GOP has gotten a taste of Trumpism. Do you think that they will now be satisfied with the Paul Ryans of the GOP wh they feel never supported Trump?

3. Even if by some miracle the GOP manages to attract back its sane" supporters AND Trumpers the US is becoming less white every election cycle. Do you think that Hispanics, muslims and Blacks will be eager to join the GOP after everything that happened in 2016 when its leaders stood by Trump even after everything he said and did?

4. Young white people are leaning DEM as well.

Conclusion: The GOP is ****ed for generations to come since it cannot appeal to its base PLUS sane people PLUS people of color. Which means it will not win a Presedential election for YEARS to come.
