Les ATRLers - Season 03 ∙ Episode 3: Comments (Brethren)
Episode 3: Judges Comments (Brethren)
Welcome to the elimination ceremony. First of all you're going to get the judges comments.
Kitt decided to write one comment for all (due to redundancy):
Quote:
Comment to all
Considering my views on this challenge, there were only two major aspects I ranked upon:
1. How directly the song fit the theme based on the challenge's clarification. It's way to easy to pick a boasting song where there's no direct hits, implications, and assertions of status over anyone peculiar. Ya'll ain't getting off that easy. Drags/Receipts > Shade in this instance.
2. How well your defense backs it up and entry is presented.
Your defense is heavily valued, but if your track is so directly self-explanatory to the theme (hihi posh), then that becomes priority in inclusion. As a result of my simple yet striking guideline, the scoring you received was either hit or miss. No middle ground scores, because well, that's how I wanted to create a balanced scale.

You are bringing it this season. I’m supposed to judge your entry by its fitting on the given theme and this is definitely the perfect song for this. I mean Gaga signing Run the world like Lady Gaga it’s basically screaming I’m better than you. Great entry other than the fact that I could barely read it.

Good God, she name drops herself more than she did with Alejandro in the music video and Jason Derulo does in the beginning of his tracks. Okay, that is a bit of an exaggeration. Alejandro x 1 trillion takes that cake on the most times a name is being said. With that said, yes the song fits the theme of this challenge; however, it is annoying as ****. If you’re going to make a song saying I’m better than you, you need more to it than just name dropping your stage name with the things you can do. Also, I didn’t read your entry. It looks like a year 2000-I-just-learned-how-to-make-glitter-art mess, I’m sorry. It just made things so unappealing aesthetically that I just couldn’t read it. Bright side? The entry matched the song; a mess.

I mean she does it in interviews and whatnot, but not really in songs. Down to earth, grateful humble queen of Pop.
It's kinda ironic how that one time she decided to brag, and just for fun, it's not even a real real song, her next album flopped hard.

Another great entry, it’s really fitting and look at Icon helping you with a song for today’s challenge. She calls the shots, shots, shots. Watch out for a C-E-R-T-A-I-N judge with this entry though.

Rihanna truly has quite a few songs that talk/brag about herself being the best. For a lot of people it could be seen as conceited and narcissistic, but with Rihanna she’s always had this attitude acting like she is the best and brings it with her attitude. This song just shows it all once again. I agree with what you said that even though this may be a predictable choice for your entry considering the song was just released, but in reality it delievers a great flow and demands that she is the HBIC. Especially considering she is now more in control over career than ever.

As much as I hate this song, it's definitely a great choice, I bet even Fike had it in mind when he came up with the theme.
Rihanna's cockiness it one of the reasons as to why she went from being one of my top3 faves (even main fave at some point), to me not standing her.
Queen of being not down to heart, ungrateful and not humble.

The song is so hot that its melody is still stamped into my brain. You consistently show effort and I like that. How do I put it into words.. it sounds very believable.

Ooooh, Rihanna Round 2! Phresh Out The Runway just oozes so much swag and confidence. Rihanna truly does not give a single ****. Now I see where you are coming at for this being a song not as direct saying she’s the best and I’m better than you, but it’s one of the lessor ones to me. Yes it’s confident and she has attitude, but this song to me says more about how Luxurious she is and all the stuff she wears is fresh off the runway. Does that say I’m better than you? To an extent yes, but not the forefront. Points for bringing a logical other interpretation for the song.

My bias aside, it was a cute entry, maybe the layout could have been better.

Third Rihanna song in a row. Bitch be bragging. I do see your point and in a certain way it applies to this week’s theme but I don’t feel this screams exactly: I’m better than you. She mostly brags about her money in this song and she’s not necessarily making you feel like she’s better than you like let’s say in BBHMM’s lyric: I call the shots, shots, shots/Don’t act like you forgot.

Rihanna Round 3, here we go! I’m running out of things to say about Rihanna now lol. To me this is on the level of POTR with the extent of her talking about being better than you. On an interpreted level it can be said that she is saying that she is better than you based on the amount of money she has and how much of she spends yet still making some. To me it really just says I have money; I do what I want with it and I can make it just as well. Like I said the attitude gives a little I’m better than you, especially towards the haters.

That damn Big Sexy Hair hairspray promo at the end that totally ruins the beginning of the video; hate it. Honestly, this use to be my jam back when it was released. I love the energy, the production, and the lyrics just command that I’m better than that chick you are wanting. Which is what you perfectly said as to why it fits the theme of this challenge. They are speaking of things a woman is trying to do to act like them, but nevertheless they are the original and nobody can do it like them. Great choice.

They obviously have more coins than all of us, but while others could backup their claims with IFPI entries, Grammys and Forbes earnings, I can't think of anything brag-able those girls have.

Y’all did it this week. Another good entry, I mean they do talk about biggin’ up their egos. I feel like Beyonce’s part on this track screams more: I’m better than you while I feel like Nicki’s is more of a retrospective of her career so far.

I’m feeling myself like they do in the song. This song is the ultimate I am better than you track and provides so much sass, sex, attitude, etc. Like you mentioned Bey talks about how she did what others dreamed with what she did with her record and Nicki talking about all her accomplishments that she has achieved. You also forgot to mention that it’s not only work they are feeling themselves on, but also how to get a man and keep them wanting more. They are feeling themselves so much that no other chick can compare to them. Love it.
