I think if she wants decent first week sales, she should release a ballad, something like a TAB which people can relate to. Ballads are coming back on the charts, it would also be Rihanna's first single, i do not think it would flop.

Then release Dance-Pop as the second single. This is mainly to cater to the European market that isn't really fond of ballads.

And that reason is Disturbia. Also, releasing a ballad would not help her get the sales, because she is Rihanna, people like her for releasing dance and badass music, I'm not saying they don't like her ballads or that her ballads flop, but that is what Rihanna is known for. Believe me, if Rihanna released Someone Like You it wouldn't do NEARLY like for Adele, given her image and usual songs...
