I think y'all are misreading recurrent airplay as recurrent airplay on formats focused on contemporary music. Obviously, none of these artists are getting played on Top 40.

Even on the Mediabase lists I source, the only genre chart Prince is listed on is Urban Adult Contemporary.

I Will Always Love You, Thriller, and All I Want for Christmas Is You remain the most memorable songs of the past 35 years because even the new generation today knows each by heart.

I Will Always Love You and All I Want For Christmas Is You are both significantly more recent than Prince's peak, and therefore are more likely to appeal to those who use services like iTunes and Spotify.

Thriller genuinely is bigger than any Prince song though.

Prince was huge and mainstream in the 80s. Y'all are making it seem like he's some non icon one era wonder. He's not Mc Hammer or Rick James. Prince had a hugely successful career until the early/mid 90s when he bashed commercial music industry and went indie.

That's why I don't know why him (or anyone else in this thread) is trying. Mariah is not remembered. She is relatively known because her current is more current, but she is hardly an iTunes/digital act anyway, as seen by her radio-to-sales ratio.

If Mariah also released a 2nd album that day it would've sold more than 19k and she would have the lead.

I don't see how comparing sales of 2 albums to 1 makes sense, but you cling to Destiny's Child receipts for a completely different artist so I can see why it makes sense in your head.
