The coven hate here is The season just got so out of hand with plot points it should have been it's own series.
This is definitely the main reason that it felt so messy. Coven looked so great based on the trailers and the first 3 episodes but it becamse so damn messy and totally inscrutable.
Basically she is just using the freaks and the freakshow in order to attract people to the show to see her sing. She hopes she might attract someone who will see her talents and make her famous. I'm guessing the freaks watching her from above realized that they were being used and the applause part was just her watching a tape of her performance probably crying because she put her soul into that performance for only 2 people who insulted her vocal skills afterwards.
