I watched Enemy with my best friend the other night, and let me just say, what the ****? What in the absolute ****?
The pacing was brilliant. it was beautifully directed. It was intense. I thought they were going to be twins, like those South Korean twins who got separated at birth when they were adopted out to separate families, and then found each other 20 years later when the French one saw the American one's videos on Youtube.
And the main, nerdy Jake Gyllenhaal kept teaching his students about communist countries like North Korea, and totalitarianist states where the government controls all education and media. And they lived in this really decrepit, run down city where all the buildings looked the same, so I thought the twist was going to be that they were living in a communist state, like North Korea, but they had no idea, and he was teaching his students about other countries that weren't free, all the while, he lived and taught in a country that wasn't free.
And then that ending happened. What the ****? Like seriously. If anyone has seen it, or read about it online, feel free to explain it to me, because I was getting so into it...and then that ending happened and I was like wtf
And to make matters even more confusing, I watched it stoned so it just made no sense.
