But that's the exact reason as to why Born This Way
is so good as an empowerment anthem.
Unlike other ones at the time - namely We R Who We R, Firework and ****in Perfect - Born This Way actually tackled the problem at the heart of inequality and gave shout outs, even a voice, to the minoritised, unlike the other songs which tended to give a very frail portrayal of empowerment and merely flitted around the edges of the problem.
BTW was audacious enough to put lyrics like that in a mainstream pop song where others wouldn't dare to go, hence why it was so great.
