But that's the exact reason as to why Born This Way
is so good as an empowerment anthem.
Unlike other ones at the time - namely We R Who We R, Firework and ****in Perfect - Born This Way actually tackled the problem at the heart of inequality and gave shout outs, even a voice, to the minoritised, unlike the other songs which tended to give a very frail portrayal of empowerment and merely flitted around the edges of the problem.
BTW was audacious enough to put lyrics like that in a mainstream pop song where others wouldn't dare to go, hence why it was so great.
I probably would've liked Born This Way if it was something like this. The HUGE flaw in BTW for me was the production. The noisy OTT production ruined most of the songs that could have been amazing. Fernando Garibay was by far her worst producer with the exception of TEOG. Everything else from him was to loud and all over the place
