Speaking of ageism, I think it's going to be fascinating watching the media's take on Jennifer Lopez in the next few years. She's 45 and her performances are as sexy as ever. After J. Lo's performance at the AMAs, she received a lot of praise, but I noticed a very, very light undertone to the positive reviews of
"she's getting too old for this."
The difference between Jennifer Lopez and Madonna is that Jennifer Lopez doesn't look for controversy, so the media and general public always tend to focus on how bad her music is and how amazing her performances are, but not really on her as a person or "celebrity" anymore (which is a good thing). Jennifer Lopez also has a great sense of style at events, always being on the best-dressed lists (good PR). Madonna, on the other hand, actively seeks out controversy and constantly makes questionable style missteps, which gives the media and general public fuel to "hate" her and attack her age.
Jennifer Lopez is a media darling and PR powerhouse, but I wonder if the media and general public will become increasingly more ageist toward her in the coming years like Madonna, or if she will get a pass.
