No I'm not mistaken. Well, IMO. I still enjoyed it because I stan hard for the series but I was extremely dissappointed. Random? Yes. The aliens, zombies, the two episodes of Anne Frank didnt add **** to the theme of the story. Boring? Besides Lily, Lana, Jessica and Zachary most of the performances were lackluster and the episodes seemed long as **** due to the lack of excitement and long in depth scenes. Dragged out? Yes. So many random scenes to get to the point which was predictable as ****. I mean, the whole pregnancy drama, Jessica's past and going back to the first description, the alien and zombies storyline was left to be explained, it's like they came up with those scenes just to fill the gaps of the episodes. The way the doctor died was stupid too.
I don't know. I liked it but it didn't live up to its name. The best parts were the Possesion scenes and Mary Eunice being possesed.

It wouldn't have made sense, in my opinion, if they had wrapped up the alien storyline. Aliens and unidentified flying objects are an enduring mystery, and I think they just played on the fear of the unknown that was so prevalent in the 1960s. We don't have answers today, so it makes sense they wouldn't have had any answers back then. What's so great about Asylum, in my opinion, is the extent of realism in what they portrayed: the treatment of patients or detainees in Briarcliff, the devaluing and virtual neglect of the insane, and of course the very "real" and prevalent (according to their witnesses) sightings of aliens.
I thought Arden's death was poetic. He relied on SME's innocence, and when it was snuffed out completely, he had nothing to live for. He discontinued/denied the raspers and Jude's lobotomisation because the devil wished it, and all he ever wanted was innocence to complement his own evil. The raspers basically emphasised both religion and science's futile attempts to maintain or bestow life, when in actuality, the secret lies in "unattainable" knowledge (i.e. Aliens w/ Grace, Pepper), and that both will just have to deal with their limited role in humanity.
The purpose of Anne Frank was to put Jude on the trail for evidence of Arden's Nazi past. It was all part of the power struggle. It was also character development for Arden and SME, and their endeavours to conceal his history would contribute to their budding relationship, culminating in the tables turning when Jude almost gets raped by Santa.
I agree that it was a little bit more convoluted than Season 1. I like to give Season 2 the benefit of the doubt by saying the fast cuts and multiple storylines contribute to the whole theme of insanity they were trying to portray. Life is just swings and roundabouts.
