It's catering to the audience. The 1D fans read those magazines, so they'll make the article more beneficial to him by adding small things to it like that. However, if it was in any serious publication or a music magazine, it'd be "Harry styles and taylor swift" or "Taylor swift and her ex-boyfriend Harry Styles".
