What a kid likes now doesn't mean too much - what matters is what they continue to like and what takes a significant place in their life. I can't tell you the number of hours I spent with typical "boy" stuff that served no real purpose, but I can tell you every line and scene from Hercules, The Little Mermaid, An American Tail, and The Rescuers.
