2NE1 are (were) pretty highly skilled, just not in the same way as their contemporaries. They had a much more Westernized performance style cause we know YG has a boner for early 2000s hip-hop culture so while they didn't have hard-hitting choreo or synchronization or measure up to the Korean beauty standard, they had palpable charisma and that same kind of live-singing ability that Western artists have where they have really regimented control over their voices even without ""technique"". They weren't unusually talented, but they were talented enough and in a way that genuinely made them stand out. So that was their schtick. It also didn't hurt that their music was excellent.
I'm having a resurgence of love for them lately what with the BP debut being announced. It just hit me there'll never be another real 2NE1 comeback.

i was trying to pay attention to this, BTS' concert, and EXO's concert on Twitter this morning and i was losing my mind and fell asleep
i don't get people that overemphasise 2ne1 'lacking talent', from what i've seen they usually sound pretty decent live and seem to have good stage presence.
those same people love the likes of Twice, but aren't here for talented artists like BESTie

Bunny Style would've been the first choice if it weren't a J-ARA promo. Sexy Love has Qri's awful melon haircut, thereby hurting 1/4 of T-ara's visual quartet.

Cry Cry is their visual era. Jiyeon serving butch queen, Soyeon serving Kardashian weave, Hyomin's iconic bob and even Boram looked on point.
