I came out to my family as an agnostic when I was 15, atheist when I was 16, but it wasn't until I turned 18 that my parents don't force me into going to church on Xmas and Easter anymore.

Not atheists having to come out too. I told my parents I don't believe in God a couple of weeks ago and they stopped forcing me to go to the mosque every Friday since then. I never said I was an atheist explicitly though, not until I leave the house. Although they probably already know.

Congrats on being free.

My way of getting out of church was that I would stay up all night Saturday into sunday till about around 7 am so that I'd be impossible to wake me up.... eventually my mom gave up. So it worked That was about 6-7 years ago and haven't gone since.

I've never really felt the need to believe in a God, but at the same time, I feel like completely counting out the existence of a higher power or supernatural realm is a bit small-minded. I like studying the world around me and I actually think theology and it's sociological affects are fascinating, but I just personally don't feel a connection to a God. I was raised a Jehovah's Witness, doesn't get more God-fearing than that. lol

Sure we can get as clingy and obsessed as theists. But that's because most of us look at religions as nothing but an ancient hoax.

When my faith first started declining, there was always that "what if" in my mind. It was SO hard to get rid of that guilt. There was that small feeling of going to hell because I wasn't religious anymore. Getting rid of that sensation was such a relieve and I'm so glad I don't feel this way anymore

Well, I sympathize with them. I used to live under sharia law, so basically I was forced to live by mad men's rules. It's not easy when most of the world stands against you, even if you think that you're right.
