You won't forget about it for too long if SOPA passes, because ATRL (and many other sites) will cease to exist.
Seriously, is it really that hard for some non-Americans to see how SOPA and PIPA could affect people outside of the US? It affects the internet as a whole, particularly because some of THE most popular websites in the world are based in the US, and this bill would effectively neuter or kill off those sites. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter...all of these could be shut down at a moment's notice through this bill. No matter who you are, no matter where you're from, SOPA and PIPA would affect the entire world, not just Americans.

Maybe it's because the US are not the world.
I signed it anyway. Just saying.

But this isn't just a U.S. issue, this DOES affect the world.
1. Much of the internet runs through the U.S. anyways.
2. The law extends to non-U.S. sites.
3. Other countries may follow the U.S. and adopt similar, or worse laws.
.....This whole thing could open a whole can of worms for the world.

It really doesn't matter.
The US has a HUGE influence on the internet.
If this passes, Facebook, Youtube, ATRL, etc. can potentially get shut down.
These sites thrive on user generated content, and that only puts a burden on the site owners
because they would have to monitor everything, Limit absolutely everything, or shut down these sites completely.
They're not going to make a US version and an international version of each site, that's too much work.
Whether you like it or not, this is damaging to the internet no matter where you live.

You're completely right. It will affect people outside america somehow. However, every single country has their own servers and sites. We don't exactly need US the way you guys think. And, please, it's not that chaotic. The government wouldn't shut every site down, it would be stupid. It would cause losses and they don't want it. Let's calm down.

I think that is ridiculous, I HATE it when the US decides it is the police of the world, what other countries put online is none of the US governments damn business.

Not every site, but major sites like that are in the crossfire.
Let's not be delusional here

They apply to sites hosted in the US, and a majority of these big sites ARE based in the US.
Are you having trouble comprehending that?

They can move hosts though, there are always ways around these things tbh, still troubling though.
And there really is no need to be condescending towards anyone.

Sites like ATRL could get servers elsewhere yes,
but I doubt big sites like Facebook and so forth would really move bases.

ATRL could move servers, but working around that law could open up the American creator of the site, open for lawsuit. ATRL could move servers, but it wouldn't stop the cease of funding from donations through PayPal. ATRL could move servers, but it wouldn't stop the search engine blocking of the site - reducing traffic. ATRL could move servers, but that wouldn't stop Internet Service Providers from blocking access to the site altogether.
If anything, ATRL would literally become an underground community.

Again, no, they don't apply anyway. The majority of these big sites already have to deal with local laws, so they need to set up branches to host their sites on that countries better as well.
You are the one delusional here. Look what you've said. You can't even realize you really think US are the world.
